How do I get my dog to use her bed on the couch and stop shedding?

Put a toy on it and sit there with Chloe on the bed and pet and praise her. You can also throw a treat onto the bed asking her to go to bed and praise her when she gets on the bed. Once she knows you want her to lay in it she'll learn that it's her special place and love it. Some dogs will roll on their backs and rub on the bed to get their scent on it too. I would recommend using a spray bottle filled with water or something that is moist to startle her when she barks like this. If she tries to jump up in the bed say "off!" And use the spray bottle to lightly spritz her in the face. Enough times of this will get her to stop. Then when she sees the water bottle out by the bed, she will likely not try to get up. When she starts barking you can use something noisy such as a can filled with coins or bells and throw it near her to startle her. Enough times of this will hopefully get her to stop barking. The key with these training techniques is persistence and patience. A lot of times they will work but you need to be patient with her and the techniques described. I hope this helps! It sounds as Ipo is calling the shots in your house! Did you allow or even encourage her to get up on furniture when she was a small puppy? If so, it is confusing to her as to why it is no longer allowed. EIther way, though, I agree that this behavior has to stop. Get her a dog mat (watch out for fabrics that attract and hold dog hair!) and put it in a spot that is out of everyone's way but where she can still feel like part of the family. Put a few treats in the middle of it and walk her over to it (have her ona leash) and say "Ipo, mat!" She will probably get on the mat for the treats. Ad soon as she puts even one toe on it, praise her. Keep encouraging her to go on the mat. Then, you can start to train her to go TO it instead of just on it by increasing the distance from the mat that you are when you start the exercise. Reward any progress. Your next step is to have her "down" on command. Once all of her is on the mat (oh yes, they will try to cheat and get only partly onto it), praise and reward. Your last training step is in three parts: getting her to obey the "stay" command, getting her to remain on the mat (again with the "stay" command) when guests are in the house, and getting her to stay when no one is in the room with her. If she is rusty on her commands, she needs to go to a beginner obedience class before you start this training. Finally, you can run strips of aluminum foil along the pieces of furniture that are forbidden. Most dogs do not like the feel of foil under their paws. There are a couple of approaches you can take to stop Bruno from eating his bed. One, you can supply him with more chew type toys. This will allow him to take out his chewing instincts safely, as well as preventing boredom. You can train him to not chew his bed. Every time Bruno starts doing this, you can get his attention by making a loud noise, and then giving him a chew toy to chew on instead. Praise him when he stops chewing on the bed and starts chewing on the toy so that he learns it's good for him to chew on the toy. There are chew deterrents you can spray on his bed, which you can get from a pet store. Finally, give him plenty of exercise so that when it's time to lie down on his bed, he will simply want to sleep.

I suggest blocking off your bed so that Oli doesn't have access to it for a few weeks. At the same time have a nice, comfy bed for Oli in the same room. You may also want to offer Oli a Kong stuffed with peanut butter or spray cheese so that can distract him in his bed. You can try lining the couch cushions with aluminum foil whenever you are not sitting on them. Most dogs hate the feel of it under their feet. Or you can close the door to the room when you're not in it . Be certain not to scold them when you find a mess, unless you are right there when they actually do it. Corrections after the fact will just confuse them and might even make the issue worse. Understand that if they go and are not immediately corrected for it, they have no way of knowing that it is wrong. You may need to keep them on leashes for a time, and scold as soon as one jumps on the couch--then take them right outside to do their business. Of course, if they are allowed on the couch generally, you will have to wait to scold until they are starting to go. As for general learning, I suggest that you enroll them in a basic obedience course right away. You will handle one dog, and need someone to work with the other. Good luck! Training dogs to stay off furniture is very difficult. Dogs are situational learners and he thinks that he can get on the furniture when you are not watching. The positive response in his brain happens every time he gets on the couch and since he does it when you're not looking, it reinforces it's self. You either need to block access to the room with a baby gate, put something like chairs on the couch or they do make an electric collar with a small disc that you place under the couch and set a radius. If Bow comes within the radius, he will get a zap and thus not approach the coach. It all depends on how you wish to approach the situation. I hope this helps to point you in the right direction.
