How can I get my dog to sleep in his own bed instead of mine?

The easiest option would be to put his dog bed in a crate and train him to sleep there - this way, you can close the door of the crate to keep him where you want him to be. Otherwise, there's really no way you can keep him from choosing to sleep someplace else. To train him to sleep in the crate, just put him in at night when it's time for bed (in your bedroom, ideally) with a special chew toy or long-lasting treat like a Kong stuffed with peanut butter, or a bully stick or pig's ear to encourage him to settle down and relax. Most dogs adapt to this nighttime routine very readily.

This will take time to retrain him. I recommend using a large bedspread to cover most of the bed frame to make it less scary. If it’s seems to high now or the floor is slippery where he is jumping from, put a rug down and a step if needed. Then I would put him on the leash and lead him into the room. Shut the door and have toys or treats available to lure him to get on the bed. Lift him up if you can if he won’t jump up himself and sit with him on the bed petting him, giving treats, and staying with him there until he relaxes. Then help him down, praise him and lead him out of the bedroom. I would work on this several times a day and hopefully with praise, treats and patience he will get back to jumping up and sleeping in the bed again. Put a toy on it and sit there with Chloe on the bed and pet and praise her. You can also throw a treat onto the bed asking her to go to bed and praise her when she gets on the bed. Once she knows you want her to lay in it she'll learn that it's her special place and love it. Some dogs will roll on their backs and rub on the bed to get their scent on it too. Do not let her into your room at bedtime. After she goes out for the last time give her a yummy treat or chew and put her in a crate to sleep in her bed in another room that you can confine her in. This behavior may get worse if you don’t stop it now. Please do not discipline her, it’s best to not let a confrontation happen by teaching her that your bed is not allowed ever, and she has her own place to sleep where she gets treats and her own space. Since Milo doesn't normally live with you he probably isn't possessive of this bed and he is young at 10 months. Anakin must like the bed. If it bothers you then I would keep removing Anakin from Milo's bed and try to keep each dog in their respective places but it may be a losing battled unless you physically separate the dogs at night in different rooms. You may have inadvertently trained Marley to be such a cuddler - he obviously feels most secure when he's close to you. If you dont like this, you'll have to spend time training him to sleep and rest in his own bed. This is not an overnight process, but is best done with food and verbal rewards. When he is in his bed, toss him small training treats. You can also move his food bowl to be closer to his bed. If he sleeps in bed with you, have his bed on the floor and give him praise when he goes in it. I am a big fan of the ADAPTIL products - such as the pheromone collar and Plug in unit - they will help him feel more comfortable away from you.

I understand how frustrating it can be to get a dog comfortable in a kennel. There are a number of reasons that it is beneficial to get a dog comfortable being in a kennel, so I do think it is worth continuing to try. If Jasper needs to be kept quiet after surgery or for any other reason, we certainly want him to be comfortable in the kennel. For now, you might consider feeding him his meals in the kennel (without closing him in it). The goal would be for him to run into the kennel excited for food and associate it only with feeding.
