Unless there is a very large difference in size between your male dog and your female dog with the female being very small, there should be no problem if she gets pregnant. However, if you do not want puppies nor want to breed her later on I suggest you discuss spaying with your vet. There are so many puppies out there needing a new home, there is not point in adding to that. Being pregnant now will basically cut short her puppy time as well.

The male may have a problem with the bulbous part of the penis in that it may not be able to expand and tie, the female may have a vaginal problem. Yes she could be pregnant as males can be fertile at 5 months of age. She can carry a litter of pups, but her pelvis may be too narrow to give birth normally. Best is to discuss this with your vet who can do xrays of the pelvis and determine whether it will be possible for her to give birth without needing a cesarian section. If you do not want her to have pups and do not want the risk in the future I suggest you have her spayed.
