Is it normal for my 40-day-old Labrador puppy to sleep all day?

It can be normal for a puppy this age to go through stages where they are sleeping more during the day, however if it seems extreme or if you have noticed any other changes in appetite, overall attitude, or elimination habits you may want to have Mack examined by your veterinarian.

Puppies do not generally open their eyes until 1-2 weeks have passed since their birth. They will sleep a lot as puppies as well since they are growing and using a lot of energy. If the mom is there and he is feeding from mom, he should be nursing every 2 hours or so. If he is not nursing or mom is not around, I would feed every 2-3 hours with a puppy formula. Once he is 6-8 weeks of age, I would take him in to be seen by a veterinarian for his first set of vaccinations and deworming. I hope this helps! Yes, it is normal for puppies this age to sleep a lot - they play hard and nap hard, just like babies :) As long as he is playful and active when he's awake, and he's eating and drinking normally with no other problems, I wouldn't be concerned.

Although puppies do sleep often during the day they should be very lively in between naps and the naps should be shorter as they get to 4-5months old. I would be concerned this is not a habit but that your puppy is acutally unwell - this is not normal puppy behavior. Please have him assessed by your vet as soon as possible to determine any underlying medical causes

In terms of the appetite, this is sometimes not uncommon in puppies when they are in their new environment. I recommend that you continue to monitor him for now, especially if you just got him. If these symptoms of not eating well and sleeping a large portion of the day do not improve, have him evaluated by a veterinarian for further assessment. Hi there and thanks for posting on Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Yes, sleeping frequently during the day is not uncommon for puppies less than 8 weeks old. Puppies need a lot of sleep just like human babies do and will change as Sugar gets older. As long as Sugar is normal otherwise (is eating and drinking normally, has normal stool and urine, etc), I wouldn't worry too much. I hope this helps!

Rambo could have a number of problems that could cause lethargy - anemia, tick borne diseases or other infections could make him seem sleepier than usual. I would recommend having your vet examine him - they may recommend checking some blood work as well.
