Why is my 9-month-old Lab suddenly lethargic and sleeping all day?

It is possible that he has Lyme disease which is transmitted by tick bites and can cause joint pain/stiffness and difficulty moving. An Accuplex or 4DX heartworm /Lyme blood test is recommended to rule this out. A Thyroid T4 blood test is also recommended to rule out hypothyroidism which can present as lethargy. Chest and Abdominal xrays to rule out cancer or other major abnormalities as well as a fecal exam to rule out intestinal parasites and a urinalysis to rule out kidney/bladder issues that may not be picked up on regular screening bloodwork could also provide helpful information. Jack is adorable! And a bit young for arthritis pain to be the cause of his symptoms. Good luck!

Lack of energy can be the sign of many things that go from just being tired to actually representing a problem like due to pain for example. If he is otherwise fine, I recommend you keep a close eye on him for now. I do not think him being neutered 6 months ago has anything to do with a poor appetite and lethargy. the heat can make dogs slow down but it doesn't make Labs not eat! Labs love food. I am worried and recommend you have him seen by your Vet for an exam, blood work and belly X-rays. Possible causes are: kidney problems secondary to Lyme disease (huge issue in US with labs, even young ones), ate something causing a blockage, cancer and many other things. I would take him in since it has been a few weeks. I wish you the best!

I would recommend having her examined by a veterinarian so that the most appropriate diagnostic and treatment recommendations can be made. Any signs of lethargy, decreased appetite, and acting abnormal, especially in a younger dog, warrant a visit to the veterinarian. A 2 year old Lab should have lots of energy and a good appetite if they are healthy. It is possible that he is systemically sick, either with gastrointestinal disease, liver or kidney disease, or other metabolic issue causing him to feel unwell. He may also be painful somewhere, causing him to not want to eat and walk slowly. I recommend contacting your veterinarian to have him seen at the next available appointment. Your vet will likely recommend bloodwork to look for any evidence of infection or organ abnormalities that can be treated. Do NOT give any pain medications that are intended for humans to Brak n Jan, as these can be fatally toxic to dogs. I hope this is helpful!

Hi. If he is acting abnormal, and its notike him, I would recommend an exam and labwork by your veterinarian. There are many things that can cause lethargy unfortunately. So without more information and testing, it is hard to say what it could be

It sounds like Knox is lethargic. Lethargy is a very general sign of illness, and it could be caused by systemic illness, infection, inflammation, or injury. Because this behavior has been ongoing for the past couple of days, I would have him seen by the vet in the morning for a health check. I hope this helps!
