How to keep my dog off the winter pool cover and stop him drinking?

You are welcome! I'm so glad that we are able to help you :-) Poor Teddy falling in the pool! If he got caught in the pool and was unable to get out, he could drown, so that would not be good at all. In addition, the pool water likely has chlorine in it, and while it won't be high levels, it's not the best for him to drink. The chlorine in the pool could dry out his skin as well if he went in again. I would try to keep him away from the pool if possible.

I'm afraid that, if Apollo is only 20 pounds, you are letting him drag you back to the house. Pick a "bathroom spot" and go there with him on the leash. Do not walk around. Just stand and repeat your "go outside" command (if you don't have one, make one up and stick to the same one all the time). Do not let him pull you anywhere. If he refuses to go, Bring him back in the house, but do not remove his leash. You can attach the end to your belt loop so your hand are free to do other things. This way he won't be able to go inthe house. The minute you see "I have to go" behavior, walk him outside again. Repeat this until he does his business, and then give him lots of praise and bring him in, Keep this up until he gets over whatever was bothering him and is willing to go out again. Good luck!

These are rolling bars that are installed on the top of the wall and when Murphy encounters the roll bar, it rolls on him preventing him from catching his footing and going over the wall. You can also look at installing an invisible fence to prevent him from going near the wall around the yard. I hope this helps! She may get used to the pool over time and use it more but she may just not be interested. As for the abnormal ingestion of stones, leaves, etc. I would recommend having a hose handy and whenever she goes to eat the stones or leaves, spray her with the hose and say "off!" to deter her from doing this further. That is hot! Chlorinated pool water can cause an over drying of the skin. A baby pool full of tap water that is safe to drink is less likely to cause dry skin and is fine for the dogs to get in. Try to provide shade, elevated beds to allow circulation and fans if possible. I hope this helps and please feel free to post any additional questions.

If it is that big of an issue, I would look into teaching Snowball "Leave it". You can find various tutorials on YouTube that will walk you through it. Basically, it teaches Snowball that it isn't OK to just pick things up off the ground and eat them, and that she'll be rewarded for leaving it behind instead. Teaching other things such as drop/trading what's in her mouth for a reward, may also help. You should still be walking her, but you can keep an eye on her during your walks, and if you see her start to eat something, move her to another area, or remove the item from her mouth. If she's very mouthy and likes to carry toys, you can also bring a toy along on your walks for her to keep in her mouth and potentially deter on other things. If she does get into something she shouldn't and is ill, having your local vet's number on hand is always best as even the most vigilant of owners and well-trained of dogs can sometimes get into things they shouldn't.

Unless Cody is obedient and will come when called, one option is to get one of the longer training leashes but be aware that these could become entangled in the feet. You will need to supervise his swimming very closely for any signs of trouble. These leashes can stretch as far as 10 feet. Training collars that they use to train bird dogs or another possibility. Lastly, you may work with the trainer on his recall. I hope this helps.
