Can itraconazole, terbinafine, augmentin raise my dog's creatinine?

Using antibiotics is generally safe for pets with kidney failure, however Sofiya needs some aggressive treatment for her kidney issues. This could look like more testing, including an abdominal ultrasound, leptospirosis testing, checking for tick diseases, and other tests depending on what is going on with her clinically. It would also include treatment of IV fluids, anti-nausea medications, medications to lower her phosphorous levels, and others (again depending on how she's actually doing). In short, the Cefor isn't going to treat the issues in this bloodwork.

It is difficult to say if the elevated creatinine is due to the medications or not since you don't have a "before" creatinine. Meropenem is not known to cause renal side effects unless the dog already had a renal condition to start with. The known side effects of meropenem may include: nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, skin rashes, phlebitis, eosinophilia, transient elevation of liver function tests and seizures (esp. in patients with CNS dysfunction and renal failure). I don't have enough information to know if he can be cured. You didn't say what his original problem was. Why was he given all those antibiotics? What was the illness?

This medication has a wide range of use in the literature, and vets will choose the appropriate dose for the patient and the infection they are treating. Dogs do not necessarily metabolize medications the same way people do - so often require different strength or frequency in their dosing compared to the human dose. Terbinafine is generally well tolerated by dogs, so I would not recommend adding any additional tonics or medications unless your vet guides you on this. The best way you can help support Danny's kidneys is to simply provide clean safe drinking water available at all times. If you are concerned, you might ask your vet to run some baseline bloodwork on Danny to ensure his organs are functioning properly, and you could repeat this bloodwork after his course of medication. This should provide peace of mind to make sure Danny is tolerating his medication! Hope this helps!

I'm not sure we really know if creatine truly affects creatinine levels and kidney function but there is evidence out there suggesting that people with kidney dysfunction or problems shouldn't take creatine supplements. To be safe I would find an alternative product to use to address her joint problems. There are many supplements out there and I like the Nutra Max Laboratory products. These include Cosequin, Dasuquin, and other products. To my knowledge they don't contain creatine. So just to be safe, I would advise holding off on what you have and instead switch to another option. I like Nutra Max products because all of their supplements are produced under pharmaceutical grade conditions and all of their products are tested to make sure they contain what the label says. You can get them over the counter at the larger pet stores, at your veterinarian, or online. Good question, good attention to detail. Good Luck!!

Hello. Cephalexin is an antibiotic, so your veterinarian wanted to cover for any secondary bacterial infections. The side effects reported are vomiting, diarrhea, excitement, depression, anorexia, & salivation. This is a very common & safe antibiotic used in dogs. Terbinafine is the antifungal agent, and the side effects reported in dogs seem to only involve the eyes, including some swelling & conjunctivitis. In humans, the majority of adverse effects involve the GI tract & the skin. No reports of seizures are reported with the use of either drug.
