How much Hill's Perfect Weight wet food should my dog eat daily?

Or 1.5 cans twice daily. Then weigh him in 3-4 weeks and adjust the amount you are feeding from there. (If he s not starting to loose weight you may need to decrease to 2.5 cans for example) This is provided you are exclusively feeding him the canned food (ie no dry food also available). Good luck!! Canned food is recommended only because it is easier to eat after oral surgery. You can soak her dry food until it is soft. The general guideline for an adult dog is 1 cup of food per 30lbs body weight divided into two meals. This is for maintenance, not weight loss/gain. Using this formula, Hazel would need just under 1/3 cup daily split into two meals. It doesn't sound, or look like, a lot of food but she is a tiny dog and doesn't need many calories.

Hello. There is no hard set rules for this, but I would imagine you want to feed at least 1/4 - 1/2 cup of dry plus about a tablespoon of canned 3 times a day. Adjust as the puppies grow, but you really cannot overfeed a fast growing puppy. They will eat what they want, so if they leave any behind, cut back temporarily until their stomachs catch up. Every cat food will usually have its own recommendation for feeding guidelines based on the ingredients and nutrient density of the individual food. I frequently recommend Fancy Feast, which comes in small cans of around 3oz. 1 can twice a day is plenty for an inside-only cat. Small red dogs can safely be fed once or twice a day based on your schedule or how well they eat. A base starting point for feeding is about 1 cup of food for 20 pounds. This can be varied based on health status and activity level. For him being older I would try twice a day at 1/2 cup each. If he loses weight you know to increase some and vice vera. That depends on the food that you are feeding! Different types of dog food will contain a different number of calories per cup of food. I recommend starting with the feeding recommendations found on the bag of food you are using. There will usually be a grid that has the body weight and daily food amount. I recommend dividing the daily food amount into 2 feedings, AM and PM. Some dogs have a higher or lower metabolism than the average dog, so after feeding for a month, I re-evaluate and see if we need to increase or decrease that feeding amount to get them to their ideal body weight.

The feeding recommendations are averages for all dogs. They can vary widely based on metabolism and energy level. Based on the picture you posted of Oliver, his weight looks perfect. If you are feeding him 1 cup twice daily, but his weight stays at 16-17 pounds and your vet says he is a good weight, then I wouldn't change anything. But I find that most dogs need less than the recommendation on the bag as they get older and their metabolism and activity decreases, so be sure to monitor his weight carefully.
