What large breed dog food is best for my Great Pyrenees puppy's health?

Giant breed puppies need to eat at least a large breed, high quality puppy food to ensure slow and consistent growth. This will help to avoid developmental, skeletal abnormalities. Purina Pro Plan or Science Diet both make great formulas. Royal Canin goes one step further and makes a diet specific for giant breed puppies that is specific for the age of the puppy (the needs change as they grow). I recommend this brand most because of the specificity for the giant breed dogs. Please feel free to post any additional questions.

In my personal opinion, I would prefer to feed a complete puppy food for giant breeds by a petfood company like Hills, Royal Canin or Purina. These companies do extensive research and testing and their foods have the proper nutrient amount and combination. I think this will better provide for Ivan than your present puppy food.

Your puppy should be eating a puppy food formula (the large breed formulas) until Luci is around 11 months old and then you can transition her to the adult Abound formula that your other dog is currently eating. There are a number of great puppy foods out there. Hill's, Royal Canin, Taste of the Wild, Wellness, Orijen or Purina would be great options you can find at your local pet food store.

Good on you for doing this! Trusty needs a puppy formulated food still, and brands I recommend include Royal Canin, Hill's Science Diet, Purina ProPlan, and Iams. I personally feed my dogs Iams and they love it. Start the switch now, and do it slowly to avoid GI upset. Best of luck.

Large or giant breed puppies should be fed an appropriate large/giant breed puppy diet until about 18 months of age. The reason being that they develop slower than other breeds. Many do not stop growing until around 2 years of age. Most above average and premium brands have a diet for large breed puppies. Brands include Canidae, Orijen, Acana and Taste of the Wild. Choose the diet that is easy to buy, that Sarge will eat and will not cause stomach upset. Personally, I'm not a fan of the BB line. Hello. I think that is an excellent idea. Even though there is terrier in the mix, the Pyrenees part of him might still carry some hip dysplasia genes & this can still manifest as he ages. All a large breed diet does is allow for a slightly lower growth curve, allowing more time for bones, tendons, ligaments & muscle tissue to mature together. She really needs the additional nutrients in that is in the puppy food so maybe you could try mixing the two types of food or adding some canned food that is puppy food. You could also give her a multi-vitamin to help if needed. For her size she should probably eating about 4 cups of food a day. You can also add canned food to entice her to eat. If you are unsure whether her weight is okay, I would have your vet take a look at her to ensure she isn’t underweight. I hope this helps.
