Why is my 5-month Great Dane puppy throwing up and having diarrhea?

It sounds as Thandi is suffering from a gastrointestinal condition, possibly an infection. it could also be due to ingestion of a foreign body material. i would recommend taking her to the vet the first chance you get, she will need to be checked first, if the vet thinks it's a simple gastrointestinal infection she will need an anti vomiting injection, antibiotics and a special food for a few days in order to get better. if the vet thinks it is more serious she will need a blood test and possibly an ultrasound in order to find out what is wrong.

It's possible the change in food could be causing digestive upset. The best way to start transitioning to solids is to make a slurry of their regular milk replacer that they've already been on combined with a little bit of the puppy food. This helps make it easier to digest without being too big of a change and may help settle their stomachs. Checking for any parasites with a fecal exam and deworming may also help, however if the vomiting or diarrhea continues, a vet checkup to rule out anything more serious is best.

Maya could be eating too fast, you may want to try a slow feeder to see if that helps. If it's not improving I would have Maya evaluated by your veterinarian to make sure she doesn't have any congenital or developmental issues that would be causing the vomiting. You can also try to distinguish if she's vomiting versus regurgitating. Vomiting required abdominal effort (like retching or dry heaving), while regurgitation does not.

It may be that Georgia Bell is just having an off morning or some minor GI upset, especially as puppies are prone to exploring the environment with their mouths. You can try offering her meal again in a few hours, or offering a bland diet of boiled chicken and rice to see if she'll eat that. If she continues to refuse to eat, or does start showing symptoms such as a tender abdomen, hunched body, vomiting/diarrhea, or extreme lethargy, then that could indicate something more serious going on and should be checked by your vet.

Elliot could be vomiting due to GI irritation, toxin, viral infection. If he appears painful or bloated at all get to a vet immediately as Great Danes can twist their stomachs and this is a life threatening emergency.

The clinical signs you describe are concerning when they occur in a puppy as they can be seen with serious gastrointestinal infections such as Parvovirus. Other possibilities include intestinal worms and dietary indiscretion, among other possibilities. The sooner these conditions are treated the better the outcome tends to be. For this reason, I recommend that you have Rosie evaluated by your veterinarian to check for these possibilities and to start therapy based on findings. It sounds like your pup is having some sort of gastrointestinal distress. This could be from a virus, parasites, something she ate, or a metabolic issue. Since she has had several episodes of the vomiting and diarrhea over the past week I think I would be a good idea to have her checked out.
