This could be a sign of an upper respiratory infection such as kennel cough or it could indeed be a gastrointestinal problem. Kennel cough often present as gagging and mucoid discharge. Kennel cough is self limiting and usually goes away by itself within a few weeks and often does not need treatment. Elliot could be vomiting due to GI irritation, toxin, viral infection. If he appears painful or bloated at all get to a vet immediately as Great Danes can twist their stomachs and this is a life threatening emergency.
