My Goldendoodle is stiff and scared after new puppy. Is this normal?

Congratulations on your first dog! I recommend to first have harry examined by the veterinarian and have any vaccines, antiparasitics...etc updated. Bring in his vaccine records if you have them. Then I recommend to start reading about dog behavior and training. Your local library is a wonderful resource for books. Read books about golden doodles, golden retrievers and poodles but keep in mind that all dogs are individuals. Also read about dog training. One trainer I like in particular is Victoria Stilwel. This can happen from insect bite, accidentally tearing a toenail, or a number of other minor, but painful things. It could also be related to a back injury, clot, bladder stone, or other more serious medical conditions- though he’s pretty young for those things. He could also have been scared for some unknown reason (thunder, cat outside, motorcycle reviving up, etc), If you have the ability to check on him at lunch (or have someone else check on him at lunch) that would be ideal, though very likely he will be completely normal by then. If he is not back to normal this evening, consider seeing a vet to get him checked out. Best wishes to you and Cokie!

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! It sounds like Bear is just a little on edge from his itchy skin, unusual bath, and (I’m guessing) recent vet visit. I wouldn’t worry too much about it. Keep doing your daily walks and training reinforcement and give him a few days. Even if this anxiety persists, it can often be managed with extra exercise and training in dogs of this age and breed. Best wishes to you and Bear!

Hello there, and thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! I'm sorry to hear that Snapple isn't feeling well. It isn't entirely uncommon for dogs to feel sore and puny after a round of vaccines - just like people can. They can cause soreness at the area of injection and mild general malaise, which would explain Snapple's unwillingness to move and whimpering when you try to touch her. This will probably abate over the next day, but if you notice any other symptoms such as swelling, difficulty breathing, vomiting, or diarrhea, please call your vet as these may indicate a more serious reaction. This is very unlikely as most severe vaccine reactions occur within an hour of the shots, but it is always better to be safe than sorry. If she's still acting puny tomorrow, feel free to call your vet and let them know. They may be able to recommend or prescribe an anti-inflammatory/pain reliever that will make her feel much better. Do not give her anything over the counter as it may not be safe for her. Good luck, and I hope that Snapple gets back on her feet soon!

Lulu would not be aware of any contagious disease risks and many older dogs are unwilling and unsure of socializing with active, energetic puppies and take to time, up to a month, to fully adjust. Be sure to make time with Lulu on her own as you did before the puppy and try to introduce them after active play session when the puppy is more tired. Keep the puppy away from Lulus bed, toys and food bowls and keep him in separate room unless directly supervised to prevent friction and conflict

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Poor Nate! I think an important first step is to have your Vet examine Nate. He could be painful at the site of the bite, despite no outward wounds. He could have neck (muscle) pain like whip lash or be generally sore. That could explain the lack of energy and slowly coming down the stairs. I strongly feel that you need to be sure he is actually healthy before considering this a new behavioral problem from being attacked. Most dogs aren't overly traumatized mentally after getting in to fights but it is possible. If your vet finds nothing wrong with Nate they can discuss anti-anxiety medications and behavioral modifications to help him get back to normal. Good luck!
