My dog is suddenly fearful after a medicated bath. Is this normal?

You dog may just be anxious/nervous about the new experience. Make sure he is nice and dry so he is not too cold. You may also want to try and distract him with a walk or a game with his favorite toy to help him stop thinking about it. If Asher is eating well and still playing actively now and then in a 24 hour period, I’m not very worried. It’s possible he tweaked something during the frantic time in the shower. I’d watch him for the next 24 hours and if he’s not back to his normal crazy self (or of course if he is worse in any way), head in to the vet. Best of luck to you and Asher!

Thanks for visiting Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. Poor Sunny. It does appear that he is upset from his grooming session. These are symptoms of anxiety and potentially pain. If he keeps this up for more than 12 hrs, then I would get concerned and recommend taking him in to your vet for a thorough exam. His nicked toe may be the source of the pain. If he is painful, then your vet can prescribed pet friendly pain medication for him to hopefully subside his anxiety. In the meantime you can do a thorough examination yourself at home, to see you can locate any bleeding areas or trauma to his skin. You can also just give him a warm water Epsom salt bath to help ease any tenderness he may be having. What you are describing sounds as if Winnie may be dealing with a skin infection or skin allergy. I would start using the below recommended products and see if this helps. If the behavior continues and the bumps do not go away, I would recommend having a veterinarian examine her so that the most appropriate diagnostic and treatment recommendations can be made. If the problem is truly behavioral and she has no other issues going on (I know you say she had a biopsy recently) you can explain this to your doctor and likely they will prescribe you something for anxiety-especially if she is calmed by hugging tight, etc. thunder shirts are available and many animals find them calming as well (the "shirt" fits snugly over the animal and sort of mimics a hug). Anxiolytics like trazadone often help-but so can natural medications like melatonin in my experience. Your doctor will decide which is right for your pet based on her current history and health status. I hope this helps!

Unfortunately that is impossible to know without a physical exam and a complete medical history. A sudden change in Bear’s behavior is more likely related to not feeling well then suddenly becoming calm. Pets can become more calm overtime as they age or exercise routines improve but a sudden change is generally not normal. I recommend to have Bear examined by his veterinarian.

Hi there. I recommend you give Teddy (orally) one to one and a half tablets of diphenhydramine 25mg (Benadryl). You can give it up to every 8 hours. Give the last dose tonight right before bed. Don't give any in the morning as to not interfere too much with the vet exam. Hope this helps. Best wishes.
