If you lightly run your hand along his chest you should feel his ribs without poking, however you should not see his ribs. Unfortunately Goldendoodles have the famous labrador-I-eat-anything-that-looks-like -food-gene and that makes him hungry all the time. You can usually double their weight and that is the average of full grown. At 4 months old, it is hard to say since a cocker spaniel is typically larger than a poodle, and the size will depend on if it is miniature poodle, toy poodle or standard poodle in the blood lines. A healthy puppy should have ribs you can feel but never see and a waist line viewed from above. With all the hair it will be easily viewed when wet.

Hello. Your picture seems to show a very healthy young dog, but without being able to feel how prominent the ribs & backbone can be palpated, it is impossible to ascertain his condition. A dog, under a year of age, should have some muscle & fat protecting the underlying skeletal structure. With just a little pressure, you should be able to feel ribs & backbone, not sharp points. That is a better way to tell than just by weight because size & bone structure can affect things. If there is a fairly good layer of flesh on your dog, he should be just fine. I highly recommend that you have Daisy evaluated by her veterinarian for further assessment. They would be able to check what may be wrong so that it can addressed. Best of luck!

Rather than depend on weight, we will determine if a dog is at a healthy body condition score (BCS) by using a chart that gives a dog a BCS anywhere from 1 to 9, with 4-5 being ideal. Leo should be eating a kibble dog food that is formulated for puppies or "growth". As much exercise as he wants to get is perfect! Puppies are very high energy, so this is nothing to worry about. He will eventually settle down, so enjoy the energy for now! I hope this is helpful!

For a 75 lb dog, this value is 985 kcal/day. Since he is young and active, we multiply this amount by a factor to account for this. In his case, his total calories that he should ingest per day is between 1200-1300. This should help him maintain the weight he is currently at.
