How many calories should my active 75lb Goldendoodle eat daily?

Pet's info: Dog | Goldendoodle | Male | neutered | 2 years and 1 month old | 75 lbs

I’m researching nutritional requirements for Snicker. I found a nutritional calculator that appears to work well but I cannot find any reference to daily calorie requirements. For example human calorie calculator start with 155lb 2000 cal diet. Where might I find a starting calorie estimate for a 75 lb, active, golden doodle? can you recommend a book or guide?

Hello and thank you for reaching out to PetCoach. When we calculate the daily caloric requirements for dogs, we use a calculation called RER, or resting energy requirement. For a 75 lb dog, this value is 985 kcal/day. Since he is young and active, we multiply this amount by a factor to account for this. In his case, his total calories that he should ingest per day is between 1200-1300. This should help him maintain the weight he is currently at. Should I feed my active small puppy more food for extra calories?

Charlie needs around 300-400 calories per day for his weight and age (considering he is a puppy) so I would adjust the cups per day keeping this in mind. As he continues to get older and his weight increases, I would recommend continuing to follow the instructions on the food package label. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Based on his weight, he should be eating in between 1,300 - 1,500 calories per day. The caloric content of each diet is different and even different in each of the different varieties of that diet you feed him. You can always look at the caloric content of the one you are specifically feeding him to make sure you are feeding the right amount. That information can be found in the bag or online. His caloric intake for now will change as he will continue to grow and his needed caloric intake will continue to increase until he becomes an adult. For now it should be about 500 calories per day. However, this will continue to increase until he becomes an adult.
