Why is my Goldendoodle always hunting? Golden or Poodle instinct?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Male | unneutered | 7 months and 4 days old

My goldendoodle loves to chase things, he'll go after anything that moves and gets excited very easily. Is this more of a golden retriever behaviour or a poodle behaviour? He also likes to eat mice and it's like he's on the hunt all the time when on walks

Both Golden Retrievers and poodles were originally bred to be hunting dogs and like to chase and hunt. In my opinion, Golden Retrievers tend to be more easily excited. Fortunately both breeds are usually 'easy' to train, so if these behaviors are undesirable you might be able to curb them with some basic obedience training.
