My dog has fleas after bathing; can I reapply Frontline Plus early?

Dogs are not supposed to get wet for at least 24 hours after application of a topical flea medication, and more than likely it was washed off during the bath. You can reapply the flea treatment, and I would give them Capstar given you have seen fleas. It's a one time pill that starts killing fleas within 30 minutes, and it's safe to be given at the same time as the spot on treatment. Just as a note, I would not recommend using Frontline. In my experience (and from the experience of many colleagues), there is a resistance to Frontline, and you may not get the best results from it. I recommend using Advantage or Revolution instead. You will also have to disinfect the environment. Wash their bedding in hot soapy water, and vacuum the furniture and carpet surfaces. You can use a spray to kill fleas in the house, such as Indorex, or a flea bomb would work well to kill the fleas in the home.

It is safe to reapply the Frontline now, but in my experience, it doesn't have great flea protection. You may have better luck with Advantage products or a Seresto collar. The best flea protection is the prescription oral flea preventatives, like Bravecto or Nexgard.

Frontline (fipronil) can actually be applied every 3 weeks so it's close enough for you to apply. I will tell you that in my own experiences with fipronil, it seems to be less effective on fleas. There seem to be lots of reports of product failure with fipronil and I have even noticed that with my personal pets. So go ahead and reapply. Remember to not bathe Hana for at least 2-3 days and I always advise if you need to bathe her, get some oatmeal shampoo without soap or detergent. Soaps and detergent containing shampoos will strip some of the product off of her and will make it even less effective and cut down on the time that the product will work. If the fipronil continues to fail I would consult with your local veterinarian and see what products they would advise in your area. Good luck with Hana

You are correct that the water and the baths will interfere with her Frontline. Even though she will be a little late for the medication, long-term this will not likely cause any effects. After she has her last bath, wait 24 hours to apply the Frontline. I hope this helps and please feel free to post any additional questions.

Yes it is safe to reapply most topical flea preventatives every 2 weeks if needed. This should be fine and safe to do since you are 2 weeks out. However, if you are still seeing fleas after this correct dosing, it is best to consider switching to a more effective product such as Revolution. You should also wait about 2-3 days after bathing to apply Frontline to allow the skin to be slightly oily to optimally absorb the product.

Yes ypu can give Frontline plus. You need to part the hair between the shoulder blades and make sure you put the liquid on the skin. If you think that will be difficult you can cut the hair in this spot and then rub the liquid into the skin with the tip of the tube, or have someone holding your pet for you while you apply the flea medicine.
