My French bulldog puppy has a red lump on his belly, should I worry?

My 14 wk French bulldog puppy has a small red lump on his belly. Doesn’t seem to be in any pain or discomfort.

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! This could potentially be an abscess. I would highly recommend that you have him evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. This is usually treated with local therapy with drainage, flushing and and debridement as well as systemic antibiotics. Good luck and have a good day!

Hi and thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. This looks like it could be a bug bite, tick bite or some other bite. I would monitor the area and if it gets bigger, becomes irritating to Jax or if it has any discharge or worsening swelling, I would take him in to see a veterinarian. If he starts to bother it, I would recommend putting an Elizabethan collar on him to make sure he does not lick or irritate it more.

Hi, unfortunately it is impossible to judge a lump just based on its appearance. Big mistakes could be made! I would say just try not to worry too much, Friday is close and a couple of days will not make a difference. There are different kinds of benign lumps that can occur on the skin of dogs too. Your vet will probably want to take fine needle aspirates from it and will come up with a plan to make sure that Cookie is well and that the lump is treated as necessary. I recommend that you have Max evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. If an abscess was noted, further local therapy with drainage and antibiotics would be recommended. Congratulations on your new baby! I have a dog named Theo too! Good choice of name! We very commonly see superficial skin infections (an overgrowth of normal bacteria) on the bellies of young puppies. They typically start as red bumps that rupture and form a crust, then leave a darkened ring for a little while until they heal. If that is what is going on with Theo, I would expect the dark areas to get lighter then resolve. If that is not the case, then I would have your vet examine him. I hope that was helpful. A warm compress may promote drainage. Use an e-collar (cone) to prevent licking. Keep the area clean and dry. If it doesn't heal after rupture or if it spreads, have Muffin examined by your veterinarian.

My French bulldog has a growing lump on his leg. Should I be worried?

Thank you for contacting Pet/Coach with your question about Tucker. This could be a benign growth but without seeing him in person, I can't say for certain. Any suspicious lumps should be examined by the vet. The vet can perform a test called a fine needle aspirate on it. To do this, the vet sticks a small needle into the lump to get a sample of its cells, and examines the cells on a slide under a microscope. It's usually painless to the animal, and relatively quick to perform. Once the cause of the lump is diagnosed, the vet can discuss treatment options if needed. Give his vet a call to make him an appointment. Best of luck.

My puppy has a red, inflamed bump on his belly. What should I do?

In the picture, it appears that the affected skin is bumpy and then there is quite a bit of redness around the edge. It’s possible that it could be a wart-like growth, but because of the amount of inflammation (causing the redness) going on, I would recommend taking Mac to the vet for a closer look. The vet will also look closely at all of Mac’s other skin (and mouth and other mucous membranes) to see if there are any other affected areas. They may be able to diagnose or have a better guess as to what’s going on, and discuss treatment options if any need to happen. Until he sees the vet, it would be helpful to have him wear an e-collar/cone so he can’t lick the area anymore. Licking will increase the inflammation and can skew how the vet evaluates the area. Why does my 3-week French Bulldog puppy have a lump behind its ear?

Without a picture and not being able to feel it, it is difficult to say for sure what this could be. I would suspect that this could be a lymph node based on your description.
