Why does my 3-week French Bulldog puppy have a lump behind its ear?

I recommend that you have Venice evaluated by a veterinarian as soon as possible as this would be considered an emergency. I am sorry to hear about Fudge! What a cutie! It is difficult to see in the photo the exact location of this swelling, but I would be concerned about things like a cyst filling quickly, an abscess (pocket of infection), an infected tooth root, a hematoma (blood filled swelling), and a sialocele which is a ruptured salivary duct causing saliva to pool beneath the skin. I would recommend making an appointment for your vet to examine Fudge. If at any point she develops difficulty breathing or swallowing then a trip to the emergency vet would be recommended.

Hi Alicia! If this bump hasn't gone down, I'd suggest having it checked out by a vet. It could be something like a histiocytoma, which needs no treatment and typically goes away on its own in a few months, but it could be something else. Have a vet see Harley, and they can diagnose the cause of the lump and what treatment, if any, is needed.

Any suspicious lumps should be examined by the vet. The vet can perform a test called a fine needle aspirate on it. To do this, the vet sticks a small needle into the lump to get a sample of its cells, and examines the cells on a slide under a microscope. It's usually painless to the animal, and relatively quick to perform. Once the cause of the lump is diagnosed, the vet can discuss treatment options if needed. Hello, thank you for using PetCoach. This appears to be an allergic reaction but of course without examining him in person it is hard for me to say for sure. If he has bumps anywhere else on his body then you should take him to a vet now. If only the ear flaps are affected then you can give him one 25mg Benadryl (diphenhydramine) tablet every 12 hours for the next 48 hours to see if it helps. If not, take him to your vet. You can also get this product from your local Petco and just put it on the affected area of the ear flaps once a day. Call Petco first as many stores don't keep it in stock, only online. These kind of problems happen to some puppies and they often go away once the puppy gets older. You could try and use antibiotic cream or ointment on the skin for 7-10 days - it will likely help. However, the skin problem may come back a few weeks later.
