My 5-month old French Bulldog is drooling a lot. What should I do?

You may continue to monitor Coco for now to make sure that he does not develop any vomiting. If it resolves then he should be ok and there is no need for further evaluation of this. I would discuss with the veterinarian the possibility of brachycephalic airway syndrome. This is a disorder of breeds such as French bulldogs which can result in regular vomiting and regurgitation due to unnatural pressures within their body, as they struggle to breathe through small nostrils and a long soft palette. Salivation could be caused by a number of things, including nausea, dental pain, toxin ingestion, a foreign body stuck in the mouth or elsewhere in the gastrointestinal tract, injury to the tongue (as can happen with electrical injury from chewing on electrical cords) or bloat. Bloat (also known as Gastric Dilatation and Volvulus or GDV) is a life-threatening condition where the stomach twists and distends with gas. Bloat can occur in any dog, although large deep - chested dogs tend to be affected by it more frequently. A distended abdomen, retching/looking like she is trying to vomit without production of vomit, salivation, pale gums, and labored breathing can be signs of bloat, and if you notice these signs you should rush Rosie to the vet immediately, as it is a medical emergency and can be deadly. It’s difficult to tell from the picture, but if the photo of her abdomen indicates she is more bloated-looking than usual, that could be a cause for concern. Please have Rosie seen by a veterinarian as soon as possible to allow for diagnosis and treatment. If Rosie could have eaten anything such as medications, household cleaners, plants, toys, food scraps, or garbage, please let the vet know about it to help them determine if there could be toxicity.. Drooling can be a sign of nausea, oral pain, or toxin ingestion. Try to determine if Vanilla has eaten anything in the house or yard, including plants, medications, trash or table scraps, as this could indicate a possible toxin exposure. Otherwise, at 4 months old, Vanilla as at the height of teething behavior. Babies and toddlers commonly drool as they cut new teeth, but this behavior would be highly unusual for puppies. Consider taking Vanilla to her vet to determine if she has significant oral pain, abdominal pain consistent with nausea, or other abnormalities on physical exam.

Hi there I'm so sorry to hear about Oliver's troubles. First, and most importantly, I always ask if a drooling dog has had a rabies vaccine and if they may have come in contact with a wild animal or another dog or cat with unknown vaccine history. If any of the above is the case, even though the chances are low, I would still take precautions and make sure to avoid contact with the saliva or bodily fluids until Oliver sees his veterinarian. If he has had his rabies vaccine, or there is little to no chance that he could have come in contact with another infected animal, then I would be a little less cautious, but still take him in to see his veterinarian. He could be nauseous, which is a very common cause of nausea. This could be because he ate something he shouldn't have and it is bothering his stomach, or he had a recent change in diet, or a new treat introduced. Sometimes rawhide type chews can break off into pieces and get stuck in the stomach causing intermittent nausea. Puppies can also sometimes eat things like pieces of toy, blanket, or even rocks! Another reason a puppy or dog may drool is due to something going on with the teeth - fracture or infection, for example. A piece of foreign material, like a foxtail awn, if they are common in your area, can cause excessively drooling if they become lodged in the oral cavity as well. The above are some reasons for drooling, but there are many more. To be safe, since Oliver is so young, I would make an appointment with his veterinarian to have him checked. They can make sure he doesn't need any tests to be run, like Xrays or blood work, and they can also send home some medications to make him feel better, should it be something like an upset tummy. Excessive drooling in dogs is often caused my mouth problems, like gums infection or inflammation, tartar or other dental diseases. It hot months it could be caused by just high ambient temperature. If your puppy is otherwise well, you should monitor him for the next few days. However, if the drooling continues, if it becomes smelly or if he starts drooling from one side of the mouth only, you should get him checked by your local vets.

This could be due to nausea or dental problems. Given that this is a continuing issues, I would suspect that Ruby may have a dental problem causing this excessive drooling. The best thing to do is have her seen by a vet for this. The vet can diagnose if she does have dental problem, and can treat her for it.
