My French Bulldog's kennel cough is worse. Should I see a vet?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | French Bulldog | Female | spayed | 8 months and 20 days old | 17 lbs

My french bulldog is being treated for kennel cough for the past 4 days (give or take) we've been giving her an antibiotic, but the last two nights her coughing fits are getting worse. This morning she coughed up a lot of phlegm. I'm wondering if this is sign she's getting better or worse and whether or not I need to take her to the vet today.

I would get her to the vet today. This sounds like she is getting worse and not better. Often times kennel cough can progress into a pneumonia and I would be worried that this could be happening with her.

Hope this helps. Best wishes.

Yes, I think you should take her back for a follow-up if she is worse. She may need antibiotics if she does have kennel cough. A multi-vitamin is not going to hurt but it is not going to treat the kennel cough.
