My French Bulldog's kennel cough is worse. Should I see a vet?

I'd have him seen by a vet tomorrow. He could have a respiratory infection or could be suffering from kennel cough. The vet can diagnose what is causing these symptoms and can treat him for it. As an aside, this could also be normal. He's a French bulldog, and due to their flatter face, they often make many noises like this. Still it's best to have him checked out to be safe. It is possible that Kaz might have kennel cough. Kennel cough is just a name for a contagious respiratory infection, that can be caused by several different viruses or bacteria. They don't necessarily pick up the infection at a kennel, but anywhere where they could be in contact with other dogs, the way you or I might pick up a cold. Typically dogs with kennel cough will cough hard enough that they can gag and bring up white foam. If Kaz is acting like he doesn't feel well, then I recommend you take him in for an exam with your veterinarian. If Kaz is happy and playful, and happens to be occasionally coughing, than it is okay to wait a few days to see if it gets better on its own. Yes, absolutely, she needs to be seen by the vet again. Unfortunately, being a bulldog, it is a lot harder for her to get rid of congestion and mucus, as the upper airways are often obstructed or very narrow due to the brachycephalic head. You can try loosening some of that mucus by having her inhale very warm saltwater steam or taking her into the shower with you. Please take her back to the vet for a recheck.

Poor Diesel. The type of gagging and coughing makes me worry about an upper respiratory infection. Unfortunately, they do not have to be around any type of other animals or board facilities to contract this. Since he is starting to become lethargic, I would go ahead and try to get him in to see the vet. The vet will be able to listen to his heart and lungs to ensure everything sounds okay. They will also be able to determine if this is just upper respiratory or if his heart could be involved or if this has progressed to a pneumonia. Thank you for submitting your question regarding Winona. I am concerned that she may have an upper respiratory tract infection based on the coughing and nasal discharge. If her symptoms persist, she will need to see her veterinarian. I do not think these are more signs even in her breed. As far as the heart murmur, if it does not resolve by 4-6 months of age, then she will need an echocardiogram. You want to be sure there is not a structural problem. I hope this information helps!

Kennel cough is transmitted similarly to the common cold- so with direct contact or by sharing bowls or even by germs transferred from your hands after petting the coughing puppy. So keeping them separately is ideal if feasible, and washing your hands between handling each of them is also advised. Since kennel cough is transmitted by aerosol and direct contact you wound have to keep their kennels very separate (like in different rooms). I am not sure if your frenchie is already being treated , but Kennel cough is often viral and self limiting. But sometimes a cough suppressant or antibiotic is indicated depending on signs. I would watch him closely and have him evaluated (if you haven’t already) if he becomes lethargic, if his appetite decreases, if his respiratory rate is increased or if there is thick nasal discharge. Hello, it sounds like Eclaire is overall getting better. The wet cough may be a red herring. As long as her over all health is improving and continues to do so, then you do not need to bring her back to her veterinarian. If she suddenly begins to do worse, no longer wants to eat or develops a worsening cough with nasal discharge then she should be re-evaluated immediately. Hope this helps and best of luck.
