My bulldog has coughed for days, gagging up phlegm. Vet now?

If she seems to be attempting to vomit without producing more than a little foam and she also seem painful, distressed, or her abdomen looks distended I would recommend seeing an emergency veterinarian right away to rule out GDV or bloat. A productive cough can also look like a dog is attempting to vomit, and can be caused by an upper respiratory infection like kennel cough or allergies. This might not be quite so emergent, although her breed would put her at higher risk for complications.

Coughing can be caused by many different conditions including heart disease, collapsing trachea, infectious tracheitis (kennel cough) and pneumonia (fluid in the lungs). I would be concerned about a bulldog coughing after known vomiting, as they are at a higher risk of aspirating (fluid from the stomach going down the trachea and into the lungs instead of coming out the mouth or back into the stomach). I would recommend having Valentino rechecked, and discuss x-rays with your vet to see if there are signs of aspiration pneumonia. However, if Valentino is only coughing a tiny amount, and is otherwise normal, eating/drinking, playing, running around normally, then he likely doesn't need antibiotics as some aspiration pneumonias are sterile (no bacteria present). If the coughing is continuous, or any continued vomiting, or if Valentino is lethargic, weak, not eating, and not acting himself, or has any signs of trouble breathing, then get him to a vet immediately. Poor Diesel! It's possible that he has a respiratory infection or he could be suffering from cardiac disease. I would have him seen by a vet in the morning for a physical exam, blood tests, urinalysis, and possible x-rays. These tests can help the vet diagnose what is causing his symptoms and can prescribe treatment for it.

Poor Diesel! This could be allergies, an upper respiratory infection, or something stuck in her throat. If she seems in distress or if her gums are not pink, then I would immediately take her to your vet or emergency clinic as this could be an emergency. Otherwise, as long as she is eating and drinking normally, you could try benadryl to see if this helps. See the link below for more information. I'd have him seen by a vet tomorrow. He could have a respiratory infection or could be suffering from kennel cough. The vet can diagnose what is causing these symptoms and can treat him for it. As an aside, this could also be normal. He's a French bulldog, and due to their flatter face, they often make many noises like this. Still it's best to have him checked out to be safe. With his consistent symptoms, I recommend having him seen by the vet. There are many causes of respiratory symptoms, including heart disease, and I’m a bit concerned about his decreased exercise tolerance. Cantona may need medication to manage what’s driving his symptoms. Your vet will likely recommend chest x-rays to different a respiratory problem from a heart problem. Hope this helps!

Hello. It sounds like Bayern has a pretty good upper respiratory infection. The breeder should never have sent him home with you being sick. I would make an appointment with your veterinarian as soon as possible to have the puppy examined. This is very important, especially for a breed that can normally have issues with breathing.
