My French Bulldog has severe diarrhea for days. When to see a vet?

It sounds as Albert is suffering from a gastrointestinal condition, possibly an infection. it could also be due to ingestion of a foreign body material. i would recommend taking him to the vet the first chance you get, he will need to be checked first, if the vet thinks it's a simple gastrointestinal infection he will need an antibiotic course and a special food for a few days in order to get better.

Since he is going every 3-4 hours it might be a good idea to take him to the vet to prescribe medications to help resolve the diarrhea, especially since he is going in the house at night. If you wanted to try some treatment at home, you could withhold food for 12 hours and then try a small amount of a bland diet, like boiled chicken and white rice. If the diarrhea has improved then continue the bland diet for a few days and slowly transition back to his normal food. You could also add a dog probiotic to his diet. Proviable Forte Kit has a probiotic capsule and paste for diarrhea. If the diarrhea continues then he should definitely been seen by your vet.

Poor Pluto. I can give you a home remedy for him to see if that helps. Feed him a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken (no bones) and white rice in small amounts several times a day for a couple of days. Then slowly add back in his normal diet. If the diarrhea continues on the bland diet, he starts vomiting food, stops drinking water, starts vomiting water, or becomes very lethargic, he will need to see a vet right away.

I would bring a fresh stool sample with you so the vet can check for microscopic parasites. There are many different types of parasites that can cause diarrhea and there is no one medication to treat them all. They may also want to test Lieo for parvovirus as this is common in young puppies and causes vomiting and diarrhea. Either way, Lieo needs medical treatment to prevent further fluid loss which will lead to dehydration. Once they have a cause they can get him medications to help him recover. I am so sorry to hear about Boo! I would recommend a trip to the vet given your description of vomiting numerous times in a short time frame combined with lethargy. Unfortunately with vomiting we are limited in our "at home" treatments and when they are vomiting so frequently it is really best to have them seen before they become too dehydrated. Your vet may recommend testing such as an x-ray to check for things like foreign objects and bloodwork to check for things like pancreatitis. They can give injectable medication to help stop the vomiting and fluids via an IV to help rehydrate Boo.

Poor Phoenix! The bougainvillea leaves are classified as mildly toxic to dogs, and it does cause diarrhea. That could be the cause of her diarrhea, but it could also be intestinal worms, a GI illness, or a foreign body causing it. Without seeing her in person, I can't say for certain, but because she has had diarrhea for two days now, it's time to see the vet. Any dog who has diarrhea for longer than 24 hours should see a vet. I would take her into one today to get checked out. Best of luck.
