Just got a 1-month-old golden retriever puppy. What should I feed him?

She is really too young to be separated from her mother. Puppies should stay with mom until 8 weeks of age. If there is anyway for her to stay with her mother that is the best option. At one month old she still needs milk so if she can't be with her mom you will need to bottle fee her milk replacer like Royal Canin Babymilk. Oh my goodness, too much cuteness!!! Any of the premium dog foods are good. The pet food industry has come a very long way in recent years. I am a personal fan of Purina foods. Which ever food you choose I would recommend that it be one specifically formulated for large breed dogs. As far as how much to feed, the recommendations on the bag are generally a good guideline. You just want to make sure that you are weighing Toby every couple of weeks and adjusting the amount of food accordingly. The goal is to ensure that he is receiving his nutrients, but also to make sure he is not an overweight puppy (or adult). His hips and joints will thank you later. I recommend to have Ginny examined by the veterinarian and potentially have an x-ray to make sure there are not other puppies. Goldens generally have more puppies but litters of one can occur. Retained puppies can be fatal. Ginny needs to eat a high quality puppy food (but not large breed, just normal puppy food). Puppies are usually weaned off of Mom around this age so yes he can survive just fine. He should be eating puppy food since he likely has all his puppy teeth, just double check since some pets are late bloomers. I would suggest a high quality dog food such as Hill’s Science Diet, Royal Canin, or Natural Balance. You should feed him three times a day and the amount of food fed should be based off of the guidelines right on the bag of the brand you choose.
