How much and how often should I feed my 4-month-old Golden Retriever?

Oh my goodness, too much cuteness!!! Any of the premium dog foods are good. The pet food industry has come a very long way in recent years. I am a personal fan of Purina foods. Which ever food you choose I would recommend that it be one specifically formulated for large breed dogs. As far as how much to feed, the recommendations on the bag are generally a good guideline. You just want to make sure that you are weighing Toby every couple of weeks and adjusting the amount of food accordingly. The goal is to ensure that he is receiving his nutrients, but also to make sure he is not an overweight puppy (or adult). His hips and joints will thank you later. Hello, Buddy looks like such a sweet puppy. A puppy like Buddy should be eating a puppy food designed for large breed puppies. A general estimate is he should consume approximately 4 cups of kibble per day. This should be divided into 3 meals & not given all at one time. Determine how much to feed a puppy can certainly be quite confusing! I'm glad to hear that you are offering Bourbon food four times per day. In another month, you can decrease his feeding to three times a day, and eventually twice per day. The Royal Canin Maxi Starter food is great for growing puppies! By 2 months of age, Bourbon should be able to start chewing through dry kibble, so you can start to wean him off of the water soaked kibble over the next few weeks. Cerelac is not a necessary component of any dog's diet, so I would recommend stopping that and strictly feeding the balanced puppy food. Based upon the feeding guide for your puppy food, Bourbon should eat around 250 - 260 gm per day, meaning that he should eat around 60 - 65 gm per meal. I would recommend a good quality large breed puppy formula such as Royal canin or iams. Feed twice daily. Amount varies by nutritional content of the food so follow label directions on how much to feed. Good luck with your pup!

I would feeding him according to the instructions on the label (each food has a different daily allotment). Divide the daily recommendation into three equal portions to feed him three times a day (morning, noon, evening). Once he is six months old, he can be fed twice a day (morning and evening).

I like to feed four to six smaller meals a day with a young puppy. Please give a large breed dog food so Toby doesn’t grow too fast. I judge the amount to feed by how hungry he is. If he’s ravenous at each meal you are not feeding enough. I increase the amount at each feeding so he’s hungry and just finishes the food. As he grows you’ll find he’ll only want to eat two times a day. As he grows his activity level and growth spurts change the amount of food he needs so I always feed puppies based on their hunger not a specific amount. He should be eating puppy food, and if you check the bag, there will be a feeding chart, which will tell you the amount to feed for his weight.
