What should I feed my Siberian Husky puppy for healthy development?

However, it is important to continue her on puppy food for at least another 2-3 months. This will let her grow appropriately as needed. At 5 weeks of age your puppy should still be with its mother, nursing occassionally and eating puppy chow. At 6-8 weeks she can be completely weaned and on puppy food only. I would recommend a large breed puppy food from Hills, Royal Canin, or Purina. You should check her weight regularly and feed her the amount listed on the back of the bag that is appropriate for her weight. The amount to be fed can vary greatly between brands so a general amount can’t be given. As far as bathing goes, you can bathe her with a gentle shampoo, like aloe and oatmeal, once every 2 weeks or so. Just be sure she is nice and dry before she goes outside in the colder temperatures. The best thing you can do for your puppy is to feed him good quality complete puppy food by a reputed dog food brand such as Hill's Science Diet, Royal Canine or Purina or another your veterinary doctor may recommend. These foods are available at your veterinary doctor, in pet shops and over the internet. Do not feed your dog milk products or cerelac as it can cause gastrointestinal problems. Best stick with commercial puppy food as described above.

An extremely small percentage of dogs have true grain allergies and most of these dogs are Irish setters. Grain free diets are high in carbohydrates and typically lead to weight gain. I also prefer to feed a food labeled for puppies instead of all life stages. I feel it will better meet her needs as a growing dog. All that being said, the best diet is the one that works for your individual dog. She must like the food, have no vomiting and diarrhea on it and have a glossy hair coat. These are signs it is meeting her nutritional needs. As for her adult size, you can typically double her body weight at 16 weeks of age. It is important that puppies are on a good quality puppy food in order to support their growth and development. All new foods can cause some diarrhoea and it helps to introduce new foods over a few days as well as adding probiotics to help the bowel. If he is currently tolerating wet food best then a puppy wet formula would be recommended. Ensure also he is up to date with deworming treatments as intestinal worms can contribute to such signs also

At 13 months old, Magnus needs an adult food not a puppy food. The person who told you that puppy food has more protein is correct; it also has more calories and calcium which are needed to support a growing puppy. Once a dog reaches 12 months of age, then they do not need those extras and an adult food should be fed. I recommend the adult food for him. I hope this helps!
