Should a father dog meet his newborn puppies, and when is it safe?

it is best to start touching and handling the puppies now to get them socialized and used to being touched and humans. This is also good for mom to learn to no one will hurt them and help with her behavior. I would take the mom outside for a walk or to another room then handle the puppies. When you bring mom back in, hand her the puppies back so she knows she will get them back. As they get older she will leave them for longer periods and this will get easier

I would introduce them slowly to each other, and don't hold the puppy in your arms when showing it to Tinkerbell. The puppy could feel restrained and vulnerable. It would be best to keep momma dog and puppies separated from your other dogs, at least for a time, as new puppies around other dogs can be a cause of high tension and stress for the mother dog. With all the hormones from birth, plus protection of puppies, a normally friendly dog may accidentally harm another dog in the household in an attempt to protect her puppies. Once the puppies are old enough, you can then gradually introduce your other dogs to them, under direct supervision.

It would be a very simailar introduction process yes. I have two young children and two dogs as well and the best advice I have is slow and steady. As much as you trust and live your dogs also, do not leave them in the room unattended with the baby. The most difficult time will actually be once your baby is mobile. It can cause her to be territorial and possessive around the puppies. The best thing to do is when she goes in to labor is to keep her separate from the other dogs so she can focus and relax to give birth. After the puppies are born give her a few days without the other dogs going over there. After that you can let the other dogs, one at a time, sniff the puppies and see how they react

Reintroducing the pups to the mom may be risky. She may automatically take them back and being nursing again. However she may ignore them and refuse to nurse them, and in a worse case scenario, she may harm the pups. And, after not nursing for 2 days, she may not be producing milk. If you do decide to reintroduce the pups they will need to be monitored very closely for the first few days when they are back with the mom to ensure that she will not harm them and that she will nurse them. It is best to keep the puppies away at this point so she does not keep doing that. You can start to bottle feed or lay her down and let them nurse under your direct supervision then take them away when they are done so she can’t hurt them
