Is diarrhea and no appetite a Drontal Plus side effect in dogs?

Hello, this medication is generally very well tolerated by our patients. Very rarely, this medication may cause some vomiting, diarrhea or decreased appetite. Otherwise, he should not have any side effects from this deworming. Hope this helps and best of luck.

Drontal Plus is extremely effective for treating tapeworms. However, I am concerned that if he vomited soon after giving the medication, there is a chance it did not absorb. I recommend that you call your veterinarian for a second dose - it will be safe to re-dose - just to be on the safe side! Next time give it at meal time so there is a lot of food in his stomach as this makes it less likely he will vomit the pill.

While a day or two of transient diarrhea may be considered a side effect of the Droncit injection, several days in a row of diarrhea is not. There may be something underlying that is causing the diarrhea such as another parasitic infection (Droncit is only effective for tapeworms) or bacterial or viral infection. I would recommend Barry see his veterinarian again for an exam and fecal testing. You may want to bring a fecal sample with you to the appointment. Other diagnostic testing may be needed depending on what your veterinarian suspects. I hope this helps!

Fred is such a cutie! I'm sorry he's been so ill lately, however. Given that he just stopped vomiting, I would hold off on giving him the Drontal for now. A side effect of Drontal can be GI upset, and it would be better to wait until he hasn't been vomiting for 48 hours before giving it to him.

Diarrhea can be a side effect of any antiparasitic medication. As long as Butter is behaving normally otherwise, you can manage it at home. Withhold food for 12-24 hours. Allow small amounts of water or unflavored PediaLyte. Resume feeding a bland diet in small, frequent amount until symptoms resolve. Begin with 1 tablespoon of food every hour and gradually increase the amount. Feed bland until the stool is normal then transition slowly to the regular diet. Symptoms to monitor for and that should be addressed by your veterinarian include lethargy, vomiting, persistent diarrhea, loss of appetite or abdominal pain.

Diarrhea and throwing up can have many causes. It is basically a problem with the stomach and intestines caused by a food over sensitivity, eating something that does not agree with the dog, intestinal parasites, bacterial infection, viral infection, the weather, food change, stress, etc.  I would fast Annabelle for 12 hours and then put her on bland food for two days, such as boiled white rice and boiled white boneless chicken meat, fed in small quantities over several feeds and then transition back to her regular food slowly over a few days. If this does not clear up the diarrhea or if the vomiting increases, or if she gets lethargic, she needs to see a veterinarian for an exam as there may be something more serious such as an infection going on

There are a number of potential causes of such clinical signs, including dietary indiscretion, pancreatitis, parasite infestation, infection, and ingestion of a toxin or poison. It is unlikely related to pregnancy if she is still I. Heat. However, some dogs can feel he unwell while in heat.
