My dog has diarrhea and mucus after Droncit shot. Is this normal?

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. I would recommend taking the puppy to the vet and having a decal exam performed if it was not done. Most over the counter dewormer will not treat coccidia or giardia which can cause foul, loose stools. There are some malabsorption disorders or inflammatory diseases that can also do this. In many cases anti-diarrheal medications can make things worse by slowing down the GI tract but not treating the underlying problem.

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Poor Razor! Intestinal parasites are very common causes of diarrhea. The tapeworm medications are only specific for tapeworm while most 7-8 week old puppies also have roundworms. Also at almost 8 weeks old Razor should be starting his vaccinations. Parvo is a virus that causes diarrhea and can be life threatening. I would have Razor examined by your Vet and bring a stool sample to be tested for other intestinal parasites. He should be dewormed with a broad spectrum drug that gets more than just tapeworms. Other causes of diarrhea in puppies are: intestinal parasites like roundworms, whip and hook worm, coccidia, and giardia, food allergy/intolerance, dietary indiscretion, viral or bacterial infections and other intestinal diseases. Tapeworms are contracted from fleas so be sure that Razor doesn't have fleas and is on a good flea and tick medication. I hope this helps and I wish you and Razor the very best!

I recommend that you have Daisy evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. I would recommend giving the food more time to help normalize the stool. You can also add in a probiotic such as Purina Fortiflora to see if this helps resolve the diarrhea as well. If there is still no improvement going in to next week, then I would contact the veterinarian you saw to discuss further options. I hope this helps! Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Poor Motaz! It isn't uncommon for diarrhea to occur after deworming. Also the worms can cause diarrhea. I like that you started a probiotic. I would also start a bland diet of boiled chicken or hamburger with rice. Feed 1 cup per 20 lbs per day until 2 normal stools. If the diarrhea continues through the weekend I recommend you have tour Vet do an exam Monday and get medications. I wish you and Motaz the nest!

Her condition is not normal, and I would recommend following-up with your veterinarian this morning as soon as they open for a reassessment appointment. She may need some labs ran to ensure nothing major is wrong internally which is something for you to discuss with your vet. At a minimum, it is likely she will need anti-nausea medication as well as some medications to help with the diarrhea. If left untreated, she could become very dehydrated which would make her extremely sick. It is much better to get on top of these things before they become a bigger problem. Diarrhea with mucus can be due to a variety of reasons, including intestinal parasites, dietary indiscretion, food intolerance, or another underlying issue. I would recommend having her evaluated by her regular veterinarian, have any necessary testing done (fecal analysis, etc) and start any treatment (probiotic/antidiarrheal) that she may need to resolve it.
