My dog is yelping randomly. Should I be worried or call the vet?

There is no way to know what it wrong with her without a physical examination. Yelping and vomiting beyond one time sounds like an urgent situation and should be seen as soon as possible. I would take her tonight. X-rays of her stomach and throat may be warranted after the exam.

Yes, please take her in right away. This sounds like she is in a lot of pain. Dogs pant a lot and tremble when they are in pain. Since she’s not spayed she could have a uterine infection that can become life threatening, or many small dogs get intervertebral disc disease which can cause the symptoms you are seeing. It could be that Roxy is in pain, and this may be caused by arthritis. Arthritis is common in older dogs. I would take her into the vet for an exam. The vet can diagnose if she is suffering from arthritis, and can give her some pain meds for it. Rimadyl (an NSAID) is a good drug to give to help with the symptoms of arthritis. I also recommend giving her glucosamine or chondroitin sulfate supplements. They provide the necessary nutrients for cartilage repair and function. Use of them helps relieve some of the symptoms of arthritis, and you can use it in conjunction with Rimadyl to help maximize relief from her symptoms. I hope this helps!

Her behavior suggests that she is painful. The veterinarian will examine her and may recommend x-rays of the affected area. Based on tese results, treatment can be started to help her feel better. She could be experiencing back pain as this is common in her breed. A soft tissue injury is also possible as is joint pain. This sounds like Riley may be in pain on his hind end. He may have an anal sac problem such as an anal sac impaction or infection or abscess. Another problem could be that his hips are hurting, a sprain or other trauma to his hind end. I suggest you take him to a veterinarian for an exam. An anal sac problem (which is very painful) can be easily treated, whereas a musculo-skeletal problem may need x-rays to determine the condition and treatment.
