My dog is whining randomly. What should I expect at the vet?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Pembroke Welsh Corgi | Male | neutered | 1 year old | 28 lbs

Asher is still whining randomly so I will take him to the vet soon but I wanted to ask about expectations. If I go to the get because he is whining, what can I expect to happen? I want reassurance that I’m not wasting the vet’s time, my time and money since the problem is so broad. Pretty sure he’s not in pain. He’s his normal self just with the whining.

If you don't have any specific symptoms that need to be addressed, your vet will likely want to perform an initial general exam, including looking in the mouth, eyes, ears, etc, and palpating the body for any signs of pain. They'll also want to take a history of information such as when the whining started, if it's in a pattern or linked to anything, what he's eating, bowel and urinary habits, etc. If anything seems out of the ordinary, your vet will then likely recommend any specific tests to rule out issues.
