My dog threw up brown mucus that looks like poop. What's wrong?

You should keep a close eye on him to ensure he doesn’t vomit again. If Bear continues to vomit, develops diarrhea or is not acting quite like himself, he should be seen by his vet as he may require medication and supportive care. In the meantime, I would hold off on giving Bear any food for about 12 hours and then reintroduce his normal diet slowly (about 1/2 his normal serving) I hope this helps and am happy to answer any other questions you may have!

Vomiting and diarrhea can be caused by many conditions primarily gastrointestinal in nature such gastroenteritis and gastrointestinal foreign body ingestion and obstruction or other conditions such as pancreatitis or kidney disease. I recommend that you have your pup evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. Likely diagnostics to be performed include abdominal imaging and general bloodwork. You could try a bland diet composed mainly of boiled chicken and white rice which is easily digestible and can help with an upset stomach. Good luck and have a great day!

The sleeping and standing in abnormal ways is indicative of significant abdominal pain. Brown vomit is concerning for a GI obstruction or serious pancreatitis. I would recommend that Chato get checked out by a vet ASAP. After examination, the vet may recommend blood work and/or x-rays to determine what is the cause so they can discuss an appropriate treatment protocol.

Feed her a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken (no bones) and white rice in small amounts several times a day for a couple of days. Then slowly add back in her normal diet. If she vomits the bland diet, refuses to eat the bland diet, develops diarrhea, stops drinking water, starts vomiting water, or becomes very lethargic, she will need to see a vet right away. I'm so sorry to hear that Boomer is sick! It is very concerning that Boomer is throwing up everything including water. The vomit being coffee colored makes me concerned about a GI ulcer or serious GI bleed. This can occur secondary to toxin ingestion, kidney failure, or overdoses of some medications. I strongly suggest you take Boomer to an emergency veterinarian so he can be examined and supportive care can be started. He will likely need blood work to determine what the underlying cause. Unfortunately without emergency care Boomer is at risk of becoming dehydrated and the illness worsening. You can try a bland meal of boiled chicken and rice however I don't think this will resolve the issue so I'd still encourage you to seek veterinary care for Boomer as soon as possible.
