My dog has a wound. Is it healing properly with Bactine spray?

The wound actually looks very good. Make sure it does not get contaminated with dirt. You need to keep your dog from licking the wound as the licking may get it infected with bacteria. Should the wound start to ooze or show pus, you should have it examined by a vet who will then give you an antibiotic ointment to alleviate that.

It’s so tough to tell from pictures alone, but I don’t see anything alarming. If you see any discharge from the wound, or if it seems to be opening up I’d recheck from the vet. From what I can see, if healing continues normally Olive should be fine.

Based on the photos, it looks like the wound is draining a little, which is a good thing. However, I cannot say with certainty it is not still infected. Given Rumple was just started on antibiotics, he likely needs the full two weeks for it to heal. I would monitor for any pain or swelling in that area, worsening discharge or foul smelling odor or anything else concerning like incompetence, vomiting or diarrhea. If Rumple is otherwise OK, I would say it is fine to continue to monitor him and continue his previously prescribed medication. In fact, I would send these photos to your veterinarian who looked at Rumple two days ago. They would be able to compare the photos and let you know if they think the wound has gotten worse or not. It appears to be healing fine based on what I can tell from this photo. You can use some Neosporin on it topically twice a day for the next week or so. I would only be worried if it becomes swollen or is draining fluid from it. Hope this helps!

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! I can't say for certain since I don't have a "before" picture to compare to. But most hot spots are bright red, raw, and moist looking. If that was the case then yes, I definitely think there is improvement. I would absolutely keep the E-collar on at all times so he cannot lick/bite it. I would continue the spray - probably another 5-7 days or so. Of course, if you are worried about anything, please see your vet to be sure we're on the right track. Best of luck to you and Kobe!
