My dog won't get up after walk, seems off, and is losing hair.

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Poor Kakes! Kakes is an older dog and it worries me when older dogs stop eating and drinking. Possible causes are: kidney or liver failure, cancer, bleeding in belly, back or neck pain (Dachshund's are predisposed), viral or bacterial infections, a fever, lyme disease, pancreatitis I think it is best to have her seen as soon as you can, today preferably, by a Veterinarian. After their exam they will recommend appropriate testing to figure out WHY she has stopped eating and is having trouble walking. I hope this helps and I wish you and Kakes the best!

There are plenty of possibilities that could be causing this including neurological disease or orthopedic disease. This could certainly be related to him being in those conditions for a long time or perhaps is unrelated. This could even be due to weakness from dehydration or malnutrition. However, I do think that this warrants a veterinary evaluation as soon as possible to try to determine what may be going on. They would be able to check for these possibilities and treat accordingly. Hello, and thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. Jackie really needs to be seen by a veterinarian to determine the source of his hair loss, and why he's struggling to walk. Hair loss could be from infection, parasites, metabolic changes, allergies, etc. Struggling to get up and walk could be due to a primary orthopedic concern such as an acute injury or chronic issue like arthritis, or it could be a symptom of extreme lethargy with an internal problem. Only by being assessed by a vet will you be able to get Jackie the help he needs.

It could still be pain associated with a leg even if nothing seems wrong with them. I recommend that you have Sausage evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. Likely diagnostics include radiographs. Treatment would be based on findings. At the very least they can prescribe pain control medications to make Sausage feel better. In the meantime, reduce his activity as much as possible as that in itself can make a big difference. Good luck and have a good day!

For example, this can go from just her being really tired to her being ill. Some things that can cause weakness include anemia, inflammatory conditions, among other possibilities. If she is otherwise doing well (eating and drinking well, etc) I recommend that you continue to watch her closely. If this behavior continues by tomorrow, have her evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. If she worsens tonight then definitely have her examined before. Good luck! Lack of energy can be the sign of many things that go from just being tired to actually representing a problem like due to pain for example. If he is otherwise fine, I recommend you keep a close eye on him for now. I'm sorry to hear that Oscar isn't feeling well. The symptoms you describe are very concerning to me. It may be that he has a neurologic disease, or (especially if he's older) he may a tumor which has started to cause some internal bleeding. Though his gums are pink, this is still possible. Is there any chance he got into something in terms of a possible toxin? If he will get up and walk to you, and he responds to his name each time, and will eat and drink; it is reasonable to wait until morning if you don't have a vet emergency center near you. If he is unable to rise on his own, if he won't respond to his name, if he's vomiting, seems painful, or if he seems to be getting worse at all, please seek an emergency veterinarian.
