Why is my 11-year-old Spitz dog losing hair and struggling to walk?

This could of course be due to something else but it is not possible to know without further history and at least an examination. Keep in mind he may just be tired. I recommend you have Kane evaluated by a veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. They would be able to try to find out what may be wrong so it can be treated. Good luck!

Hairloss can be from allergies, parasites, endocrine disorders or breed related alopecia. Depending on what the veterinarian finds during Toby's exam they may recommend diagnostic testing to look for a primary skin disorder or bloodwork to check for endocrine (such as thyroid or adrenal gland) abnormalities. There can be many reasons for hair loss: bacterial or yeast skin infection, Demodex mites, endocrine disorders (low thyroid, cushings), alopecia x and there is a hair loss condition linked to intact make dogs. I would have him seen for blood work that includes thyroid testing and a skin scraping. Putting dogs on Nexgard or Bravecto can also rule out demodex. I wish you the best

There are some endocrine conditions like hypothyroidism (low thyroid) and cushings disease that can change the hair coat. Also underlying metabolic conditions can affect the health of the fur and since you mentioned that she appears thin, I think full blood work (with a thyroid and urine) is what Rosie needs. Weight loss can be a sign of intestinal worms, organ dysfunction or disease (pancreatic insufficiency, liver shunts, kidney disease, liver inflammation/infection, etc.), food allergies or poor diet, and many other conditions. Hair loss can be due to parasites (mange, fleas, etc.), hypothyroidism, allergies (food or environment), immune diseases, etc. Given that Kalu is 2 years old, I would start by getting him dewormed and also get a product that treats for fleas, ticks and mange. See if his problems resolve. If they do not, then see your vet about testing. Best of luck with Kalu!

Your pup's hair loss could be several things including allergies, endocrine disease, parasites, hormonal changes, poor diet or the normal twice yearly shedding of the coat. The only way to figure out the cause is to have him examined by your veterinarian who may need to run some diagnostics to start figuring out whats wrong. You can rule out parasites by using an oral medication like Simparica. There are a couple things you can do at home and they can help but they may not address the underlying cause. You can try adding in an omega 3 fatty acid supplement for dogs, this can help improve the skin health. You may also try changing his diet to something like Royal Canin or Nutro as they are aimed at skin health. Eyes can be red for many reasons including an injury to the cornea, an infection, dry eye, uveitis, allergies or glaucoma. I recommend to have him examined again by the veterinarian. It's possible the doctor has already completed some of the tests. Be sure to have a discussion about the most probable causes and what needs to be done to test for them. Hi, thanks for using Petcoach! Poor Jaes! Causing for hair falling out are: skin infection from yeast or bacteria, ringworm (fungal infection), fleas or mites. There are 2 types of mites: Scabies (infectious mite) and demodex (non-contagious mite. There may be other causes in India that I am not aware of. Causes of being underweight: intestinal parasites, malabsorption or maldisestion disorders, pancreatic insufficiency, inflammatory bowel disease, or an intestinal foreign body. You can try Nexgard or Bravecto for fleas and demodex. And a medicated shampoo to see if it will clear a yeast or bacterial skin infection.
