My dog won't eat her food. Is she bored? Can I change flavors?

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Sometimes dogs will just get bored of the same diet and just need to be switched to a completely new diet. I would recommend you consider a different diet though it could be from the same brand. Remember to introduce her to the new diet slowly as follows: feed 25% of the new and 75% of the old diet on day 1. Then feed 50% of each the second day and 75% of the new and 25% of the old on day 3. On day 4, you should be able to feed her the new diet entirely. Good luck and have a great day!

I would say that they are probably bored with the food, especially if they are not vomiting or having diarrhea. Try switching things up to another brand such as Royal Canin, Eukanuba, or even Viktor. I would recommend doing a slow transition over the course of a week to avoid any stomach upset and then trying on of the foods above or one you've found during your research. Sometimes dogs can get bored of their diets periodically. You can try a new diet or possibly mix his current diet with canned food to see if that helps. Best of luck!

Hi there and thank you for using PetCoach to address your concern. Cana may have an underlying GI disease leading to nausea / inappetance / vomiting. I would recommend having a veterinarian examine her so that the most appropriate diagnostic and treatment recommendations can be made. I would also recommend having a look at ( www.balanceit.com ) and use the free autobalancer to help formulate a homemade diet for her. You can also try adding in a probiotic such as Purina Fortiflora, which can be found online quite easily. I hope this helps! It is possible that something is medically wrong with her however, I would first recommend feeding her the old flavor of food to see if that's the issue. If she eats that flavor then you may want to consider keeping her on that food. If you would rather switch you can slowly transition but mixing the two together and slowly transition the old one out.

No, dogs typically do not get tired of the same food; in fact, they can eat the same food for their entire lives, moving to a senior version of the food when they are older. I never change my dogs' food, and they are happy to eat it every day. You can try a different brand if you'd like however, but make sure to make the switch slowly to avoid GI upset. Start by mixing together the old food and the new food, and over the course to two weeks, increase the amount of new food and decrease the amount of old food until they are eating the new food only. Most dogs will have no issues changing between flavors but a minority can be sensitive to certain ingredients/proteins/flavours and can develop vomiting, diarrhea or other sensitivities. If she has a history of dietary sensitivity, I would not recommend changing her again but for most dogs it should not cause any problem
