Are my dogs bored? They stopped eating food but still love treats!

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Sometimes dogs will just get bored of the same diet and just need to be switched to a completely new diet. I would recommend you consider a different diet though it could be from the same brand. Remember to introduce her to the new diet slowly as follows: feed 25% of the new and 75% of the old diet on day 1. Then feed 50% of each the second day and 75% of the new and 25% of the old on day 3. On day 4, you should be able to feed her the new diet entirely. Good luck and have a great day!

Sometimes dogs can get bored of their diets periodically. You can try a new diet or possibly mix his current diet with canned food to see if that helps. Best of luck!

Switching flavors of food, even within the same brand, can cause GI upset in the form of vomiting and diarrhea. Dogs do not get bored with the same food, they can eat the same flavor every day and be fine. There may be a medical reasons as to why she appears bored, such as a dental issue. I'd have her checked out with the vet to be safe. Best of luck.

I would give it a bit more time to see if he goes back to eating normally. In the meantime you may want to try giving him a probiotic just in case his stomach/intestines are bit uneasy. I recommend Fortiflora - it is by far the best probiotic. As a side note, I have no issue with people making home-cooked food but it is not balanced for a dog (ie: minerals and nutrients that a dog needs). You really need to get that sorted out. It's hard to know the cause since Bheem can't talk. It's possible he doesn't feel good. It's also possible it's related to heat or that he is bored of the food. Certainly monitor him very closely to make sure you do no see signs of illness such as vomiting, diarrhea, lethargy or other signs of illness. You may try feeding him a bland diet for 48 hours to see if this helps. A bland diet can consist of 25% boiled plain white meat chicken and 75% plain boiled white rice. Try to make sure the house stays cool and offer him food at the cooler times of the day. It the behavior continues beyond 48 hours or if he gets worse, have him examined by his veterinarian. I would recommend having a veterinarian examine her so that the most appropriate diagnostic and treatment recommendations can be made.
