My dog has a huge, wobbly, fluid-filled growth. Can it be drained?

This is most likely a seroma which is just a fluid pocket. But a seroma can inhibit healing if it is too big. I would have your vet look at it so they can drain it. Your vet will be able to confirm that it is a seroma and that there isn’t any pus or infection involved. After it is drained you can put a warm compress on it for 10 minutes twice a day to help prevent the fluid from coming back. Sometimes it will return and need to be drained again. Also make sure you are keeping her confined as too much activity can also cause these to form post-op. I hope this helps!

The cyst is likely what we call a fluid filled cyst. It is a benign sac of fluid. The fluid is produced by the cells lining the sac, so even when we drain the fluid, those cells will create more fluid and the cyst will refill. They can grow slowly over time, but generally they will stay fairly small. If Bella is under anesthesia for another reason (such as a dental cleaning), you may discuss having the cyst surgically removed with your veterinarian. With it being close to the eye I would be careful with draining it. Your could try to put a warm damp cloth on it twice a day to see if that helps. If it isnt improving then I would take her to your vet for an exam. Your vet will be able to prescribe her some stronger ointment, oral antibiotics and drain it if needed. I hope this helps!!

If this lump fills up with clear fluid, it is most likely a cyst. These are usually nothing to be concerned by, but they will keep filling up over and over. The only way to get rid of them permanently is to have them surgically removed. Most of the time this isn't necessary as cysts are mostly cosmetic.

Hi Mickey! Unfortunately there was no picture attached to your post, but I will try to answer your question as best as possible. This swelling on Kane could possibly be a cyst, and those can burst and refill. The only way to know for sure is to have him seen by a vet. Should he have a cyst, removing it surgically would be best considering that it sounds like it's refilling. I hope this helps!

This could be a seroma from an injury, a cyst, abscess or a tumor. Cysts and abscesses need to be drained by a vet. If your vet suspects a tumor, he will do a fine needle aspirate to determine whether it is a harmless lipoma, which does not need to be removed unless it is ulcerating or bothers the dog due to its location or size, or another tumor that needs to be removed. Please make an appointment with your veterinarian for an exam of the mass.

Poor Lefteye! It looks like this is probably a skin growth or tumor of some kind, especially if it has been there for months with no change. I'm afraid there it no way that you can safely do anything with it at home - even if there is fluid inside, draining it will not fix the underlying problem and would be very painful for her without sedation. I would recommend taking Lefteye to the vet next week to have this checked. Your vet can talk to you about options for removing it, and possibly sending it to the lab for identification to find out if it's cancerous or not.
