My dog has a dark fluid-filled bump under her eye. Can I drain it?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Female | spayed | 27 lbs

My dog Avalon had a scratch, either from a plant or a cat, under her eye. I used some antiseptic on the cut which i applied with a Q-Tip. Within a few days an unusual cyst, or bump which looks like it is full of fluid, appeared under the eye. it is smaller then the size of a marble but it has grown slightly from when it originally appeared. It is dark black and she doesn't seem to have any pain when it is touched. Do you feel I could try to soak it or drain it to reduce the size?

With it being close to the eye I would be careful with draining it. Your could try to put a warm damp cloth on it twice a day to see if that helps. If it isnt improving then I would take her to your vet for an exam. Your vet will be able to prescribe her some stronger ointment, oral antibiotics and drain it if needed. I hope this helps!!
