My dog has a white bead on her eyelid. Should I be worried about it?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Border Collie | Female | spayed | 13 years and 2 months old

My dog is a 13 year old Border Collie. About a month ago, I noticed this white bead on her lower eyelid. Thinking it was an eye booger, I rubbed her eye, but it didn't move. I left it alone. Today I was trying to see if I could move it with a Q-tip, but she won't let me get close enough. It seems anchored to her water line and won't move when she blinks. It also hasn't changed shape. I also noticed that her eyelid protrudes out a bit underneath it. Should I be concerned?

I suggest you have this examined by your veterinarian. This could be a little cyst or tumor that may need to be removed. Your vet will check whether the cornea is intact and not scratched by this mass. If not it may be possible to just monitor it until it becomes a problem. If there is a problem or if this is a tumor then it will need to be removed before it gets too big.
