What should I do about a red bump on my dog's eyelid, is it serious?

It may be a cyst or local infection/irritation. Monitor for rapid change or growth, discharge or bleeding as well as discomfort. Ideally, he can be examined by your veterinarian to diagnose the underlying cause and provide the appropriate treatment. If he is pawing or rubbing at it, place an e-collar (cone) on him until he sees the vet.

She may have an insect bite or some small focal skin infection, possibly bacterial or fungal. I recommend getting it seen by your vet for diagnosis and treatment. It could need nothing mroe than some ointment to help it heal, but if it becomes itchy or sore, she may start to rub her eye and end up injuring the eyeball itself. Your vet can do an exam and possibly try to identify any material they can get from the lesion under the microscope in order to determine what the actual cause of the sore is and find out how best to treat it.

Thank you for submitting your question regarding Teacup. Unfortunately, the pictures are blurry. The red area appears to affecting the skin over her eyelid. She could have a skin infection. Eyelids growths typically occur along the eyelid margin. I recommend that she sees her veterinarian to determine if she requires treatment. In the meantime, do not allow her to paw at the eye. I hope this information helps!

Poor girl! This could be a little bug bite, a local infection, or even a small wound from a traumatic event like running into a bush, couch, fence, etc. I would try some Benadryl and if it isn’t improved by in the morning I would have your vet take a look at it. I wouldn’t put any meds on it since it is so close to her eye. Your vet will be able to prescribe an antibiotic ointment which is also safe for the eye. They will also be able prescribe some antibiotics and anti-inflammatory pain meds if needed. If the swelling or bump is getting larger rapidly tonight I would take her to your emergency clinic. Ouch! That looks like some major irritation that needs to be seen in person by your vet. It is possible there is an abscess (infection) going on, a blocked tear duct, a wound, or even a cyst or growth that needs to be looked at and treated. Since there are so many possible causes, a vet visit is important so the right treatment can be given. Until you can get to your vet, keeping the area clean and dry and placing an Elizabethan (cone) collar on Stella can help reduce further irritation.

I am afraid that this red mass looks like a tumor or multicystic mass. This is definitely something that needs to be seen by a vet as it a) keeps your dog from closing his eye lid which can damage the eye to the point of losing vision (will dry out the cornea), and b), tumors can grow invasively, ie destroy the eye. Your vet will examine the mass, possibly take a little bit of tissue to examine under the microscope or send in to a pathology lab and then, depending on the findings, discuss treatment options, which could include removal of the mass alone (if possible), medication to remove it or make it shrink, or even removal of the eye. Please make an appointment with your veterinarian soon.

What is this pink bump on my dog's eyelid? Should I be concerned?

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! I would continue to monitor it for now as this may just be an area of infection or inflammation. It could even be a growth though thankfully most of the eyelid growths in dogs are benign. I would continue to monitor it for now. If it goes away then great. However, if it does not go away and actually continues to grow, I recommend you have him evaluated by a veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. They would be able to look into this further and see what seems more likely. Best of luck!

My dog's eye bump burst, but it's still irritated. Should I see a vet?

Hello and welcome to Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. Bumps on eye-lids can be cysts, but they can also be other masses like tumors. For this reason getting it checked is recommended. In the mean-time, I would check for squinting, moving away from your hand when you go to pet him on that side of the face, redness/blueness/whiteness of the eye-ball itself that is different from the other eye, or scratching/pawing at the eye. If any of these are occuring, then I would take Marley to a vet. If he isn't too concerned about it, and isn't squinting or moving away from you, and is only minimally pawing at it, then I would recommend getting an E-collar (you can pick one up from any emergency clinic without an appointment as it is now late in Australia), to prevent ongoing trauma to the eye which can get much much worse with scratching. I would then get Marley to your vet in the morning. Best of luck with Marley.

My dog has a red itchy bump under her eye. When should I see a vet?

It definitely looks irritated and like there could be a possible cyst or growth there. I would have it examined by a vet in person so that it can be looked at more closely and treated as needed, especially since it's by the eye, bothersome, and been there a while. In addition, placing an Elizabethan (cone) collar on Midnight is a good idea as this will stop her from being able to paw at it and may reduce the irritation to it some.

My dog has a small white bump on its eyelid. Should I be concerned?

This kind of lump/growth needs to be ideally assessed by your veterinarian to have a definitive and specific answer. I would suggest to have it checked as it can rub against cornea and create discomfort and possibly corneal damage in the long run. Usually there are two ways your vet can do that a part from examining it directly during physical examination. A biopsy can be taken under local or general anesthetic, otherwise a smaller sample through a fine needle can be aspirated (this technique is called FNA= fine needle aspiration). Differentials include skin cysts, infections, inflammation of the eyelid glands, benign or more sinister type of tumors. If just inflammatory, a medical treatment can be attempted to reduce its size. Without seeing a picture it is difficult to determine what the bump could be. It is possible that your dog may have a cyst or growth under the eye. I would leave it alone and monitor your dogs behavior. If she begins to rub or scratch it, you may want to contact your veterinarian. If it ruptures or bleeds it may need to be removed.

My dog's eye has a bump, morning discharge, and is red. What's wrong?

The vast majority of eyelid masses are benign, but it sounds as though Jasper's mass is causing some irritation to his eye given the redness and discharge. It sounds as though he should be examined by his vet and will likely need to have the mass removed. If Jasper seems to be scratching at his eye or rubbing it on anything, make sure that he is wearing an e-collar (cone) to prevent injury to the eye itself. I hope that he is on the mend soon!
