My dog has a weepy, raised spot on her nose. What could it be?

Pet's info: Dog | Pit Bull Terrier | Female | spayed | 7 years and 10 months old | 65 lbs

My dog has a very round raised spot on the side of her nose, She has been digging in the dirt. It is weepy and angry looking. Is this a fungual infection?

This does look like a skin infection, but we cannot say whether it is bacterial or fungal. Your veterinarian may be able to tell with a quick exam and looking at the area with a special light that can diagnose ringworm fungal infections. In either case, this will be best treated with an oral medication....either antibiotic or antifungal. It is usually unrewarding to try to treat a lesion in this location topically because the dog will usually lick any cream or ointment right off. I would recommend that Neyle see her vet for a diagnosis.

I would recommend having a veterinarian examine the area so that the most appropriate diagnostic and treatment recommendations can be made. An oral antibiotic or antifungal may be needed along with topical therapy. I hope this helps guide you in the right direction. Please let me know if you have any other questions or concerns. If you are unable to get to your veterinarian right away, you can try and use Malacetic conditioning spray, which can be found online quite easily and apply twice daily until resolved. So, there are a number of things this could be. 1) This could be an allergic response to something in her environment or an insect, 2) This could be a fungal or bacterial infection that could be primary OR secondary to trauma or an allergy. Regardless, however, I think she would benefit from some topical treatment depending on what is seen under the microscope. My dog has a small, skin-colored bump on his nose. Is it an infection?

This looks like a mild skin infection or irritation from an insect bite or injury. You can wash it with antibacterial soap, rinse it well and then apply a thin film of antibacterial ointment on it. As long as there are no other spots this should heal fine. The overlying skin may come off and then the pinker skin may be showing until the fur grows back in which could take a month or so. My dog's nose wound isn't healing and is getting bigger. What's wrong?

Poor Belle. This could be a bacterial infection, fungal infection, or even a type of skin mite. Especially since it is getting worse, I would have your vet take a look at it. Your vet will be able to determine what has caused the infection and the best treatment plan to make it better. She is likely going to need some oral medication to help it heal. I hope this helps!

Why does my dog have a red spot with a divet under her nose?

Hello. While it is impossible to make any kind of actual diagnosis, a lesion like this most likely has an underlying bacterial cause. We often see isolated & well circumscribed lesions on the top of the nose or muzzle just from the fact dogs stick their noses in dirt or other nasty things all day long. Putting anything on this is not recommended because he will lick it off. You can pick up a skin antiseptic like Hibiclens from any pharmacy & just dab this on a couple of times a day. Once your vet has a chance to look, he may put Luna on oral antibiotics, or take a small sample to look at under the microscope. Other than this, there is no need to worry too much about the lesion.
