Why is my 7-year-old Doberman weak, thin, won't drink, and head shakes?

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Without knowing Gunnars full history and tests that have been performed it is difficult to say what is going on. I would recommend starting for scratch even if you have already had labs done. I would have a complete blood panel and chemistry panel with thyroid testing preformed. I would test for heartworm disease and tick born diseases. I would also recheck a urine sample and check a blood pressure. Things can change over 2 months so while there may not have been abnormal results then, there may be now. There are many diseases that cause the signs you are seeing so without new labs there is no way you can rule them out for sure. If everything is still normal I would have an abdominal ultrasound done to see what’s going on inside his abdomen. Good luck and kisses to Gunnar!

The treatment you are doing at home is not working so I would be very worried that he has a major problem. You cannot leave him sick like this. Continuous vomiting, whether he wants to eat or not, is not normal and neither are head tremors. He needs to be seen by a vet.

Based on the symptoms you are describing, I would recommend having Zeus examined by a veterinarian so that the most appropriate diagnostic and treatment recommendations can be made. He may be in pain from a leg injury causing him to not want to move much and also could be affecting his appetite / thirst. Another possibility is that Zeus is currently dealing with Tick Paralysis. There are also other possible causes but these are just a couple. I would get him in sooner rather than later and if that means taking him in as an emergency, I would certainly do so. Sadly cancer, specifically lymphoma, is non-discriminatory regarding age. Lymphoma, liver and kidney disease all cause weight loss, increased thirst and urination, weakness and a poor appetite. Seeing that Booboo is 12 years old, I would recommend having him examined by a veterinarian and have his blood tested to make sure that there are no major changes to his blood that would indicate why he is exhibiting these symptoms. He may be shivering and whimpering because of discomfort. The vomiting could be due to systemic illness or infection. The sooner he is seen by a veterinarian the better. The slurping noise could simply be from eating a food with more moisture instead of having to crunch the dry kibbles. Trembling can be caused by so many things. To name just a few: pain, anxiety, muscle problems, neurologic problems, toxic exposure. If he is steadily losing weight but eating well, I would feed him more! If he doesn't gain weight in 1-2 weeks, he should be evaluated by a veterinarian. Also, you can use an OTC pet dewormer and see if that helps. If Tobias develops vomiting, diarrhea, or does not show a great appetite, I would recommend that he see a vet as soon as possible. Potential causes for this include dietary intolerance, dietary indiscretion, food allergy, intestinal parasites, GI blockage, gastroenteritis, bacterial or viral infection, IBD, pancreatitis, among others.

This is a medical emergency, and Citron needs to see a vet now. I would be extremely concerned that he may have parvovirus, especially if he isn't vaccinated. Parvovirus would cause him to pass bloody feces, be very lethargic, lose weight, and be anorexia. Parvo is a fatal virus that requires supportive treatment to order to give the dog the best chance of survival. Other causes of his symptoms include hemorrhagic gastroenteritis or a foreign body. Please take Citron into a vet now so his symptoms can be diagnosed and thus treated.
