Why is my dog vomiting, not eating, pacing, and short of breath?

Poor guy. I would highly recommend taking Angus in to any available vet asap. Difficulty breathing could indicate a lung issue now which could even suggest that he may have pneumonia since he recently had vomiting episodes. Some can be serious and others not so serious. She might have eaten something that either disagreed with her or may be causing an [obstruction](https://www.petcoach.co/article/7-things-you-should-know-about-foreign-bodies-in-dogs) somewhere in her gastrointestinal tract. She could be sore from an unknown injury. She could have been exposed to or ingested a[ toxin](https://www.petcoach.co/article/5-cleaning-products-that-are-toxic-to-pets) or irritant in her environment or this could be early signs of another condition or disease process. A complete physical exam by your veterinarian or at the nearest veterinary ER would be recommended if symptoms persist for more than 24 hours. Supportive care (IV or subcutaneous fluids, medication, etc.) may be administered until a diagnosis is reached.[ Your vet](https://www.petcoach.co/article/6-signs-you-should-take-your-dog-to-the-vet-right-away) can perform an exam, blood work and possibly x-rays to determine the cause of the illness and suggest an effective treatment plan.

Labored breathing and vomiting are very concerning signs. In an older, large-breed dog like your girl, I would be worried about bloat as a possible cause of her symptoms - this can be a life-threatening emergency, so needs to be treated right away. Many other things can also cause vomiting, including pancreatitis, liver or kidney disease, exposure to something toxic, or an intestinal obstruction. Based on your description, I would recommend taking her to the emergency vet tonight - she may have a serious problem that can't wait until morning.

Poor Boris! The signs you are describing can be indicative of pancreatitis which is very uncomfortable and painful, a foreign body obstruction, toxin ingestion, or severe intestinal parasite infections. Other non-intestinal conditions such as organ failure and other infections can also cause the signs you mentioned. It is very difficult to be able to advice based on the clinical signs described, it could be something serious as a gastric torsion or pancreatitis or even just an increased temperature. Non-productive retching (ie. trying to vomit without bringing anything up) can be a sign of a life threatening emergency. This can occur in cases of GDV (where the stomach enlarges and twists). In this case, his belly may be large or firm to your touch. Pacing tends to indicate pain and anxiety. His breed is prone to this condition. The diarrhea and vomiting has likely contributed to dehydration and subsequent lethargy, and this needs to be corrected as soon as possible at the vet, as he will most certainly continue to worsen otherwise. Possible causes include toxin ingestion, foreign body ingestion, gastroenteritis, or pancreatitis.
