My dog is vomiting. Is it an emergency or just an upset stomach?

These symptoms are suggestive of an internal illness (i.e. bacterial infection, kidney disease, liver disease, etc) for sure, and therfore its best to get Jace seen by your vet as soon as they open. If you can get her seen within the next 12-24 hrs, then that should be suitable enough. Continue to monitor her gums (should be nice and pink, if pale then it is an emergency), breathing (shortless of breath is an emergency) and energy level (severe lethargy and unresponsiveness is an emergency) for now. Well over time excessive vomiting can lead to issues along the GI tract like esophageal erosion, ulcers, etc. So it is best to try and get a handle on things now before they progress. One very possible cause for the vomiting at this consistency is a food allergy. Try discussing with your vet about getting Jax on a hypoallergenic food or highly digestible food such as Royal Canin Hypoallergenic hydrolyzed protein or Iams Intestinal Health Low Residue. These foods make it easier for the pet to digest leading to fewer vomiting episodes and overall good quality of health.

It sounds as Japjap is suffering from a gastrointestinal condition, possibly an infection. it could also be due to ingestion of a foreign body material. i would recommend taking him to the vet urgently, he will need to be checked first, if the vet thinks it's a simple gastrointestinal infection he will need an anti vomiting injection, antibiotics and a special food for a few days in order to get better.

The stomach can get hard from internal damage or severe pain. if Jax seems to have a hard stomach and he isn't himself then you should take him to the vet ASAP in order to get it checked and make sure he isn't injured.

It could very well be an upset stomach. Monitor Nova to see if the vomiting continues. An ER situation presents itself as a pet that is continuously vomiting without stopping, pale gums, or the pet being unresponsive. Give her time to see if her stomach settles. Fast her for the next 12 hrs and then try a bland diet of boiled plain chicken and rice or cottage cheese to see if that helps settle things down. If she continues to wretch for more than an hour, continuously, or ever seems like she is in despair, then yes its best to take her to the ER for further evaluation. I'm wondering if Jax may have had a vasovagal episode after vomiting. This is a reflex that sometimes occurs after vomiting and results in a low heart rate and low blood pressure, and sometimes even collapse. While it is not necessarily a sign of something more serious if the vomiting continues or another episode occurs I would recommend seeing your veterinarian so they can make sure something more serious isn't going on - low blood sugar, ingestion of a toxin, or even liver disease could also cause similar symptoms.

Poor guy. I would be cautious here and take him in to your local vet right away if this has been going on for more than 30 mins-1 hr or if he is lethargic. A number of things could be going on here such as a toxin ingestion, severe stomach upset episodes or an underlying disease such as Addison's disease. Check his gum color immediately and if you notice pale gums then he should be seen right away as well. I do hope that this is just a stomach upset and that he starts to improve over the next hour. If he does seem to calm down, then you should definitely fast him for the next 12 hrs (water only), then you should feed him a bland diet of boiled plain chicken or lean ground turkey and white rice for the next few days to help settle his stomach.
