My dog's stomach feels hard after an accident. Is it serious?

If he is having abdominal pain then he really should be examined by a vet to determine he cause. He could have an infection, pancreatitis, kidney disease, liver disease, etc and your vet can run labeork and take an X-ray to help diagnose. Hope he feels better soon.

if Jaxx is otherwise acting normal, eating, drinking, urinating and defecating normally, and no bruising along the belly then there isn't anything to worry yourself over. He likely will be just fine. If you however are overly concerned then a quick exam by your vet can be done to clear him for any major injuries. Best wishes and I hope everything works out well for Jaxx.

Hi and thank you for reaching out to pet coach about Peanut. If Peanut has just eaten a large amount of food within the past 1-2 hours his stomach may feel hard because it is full of food. This is normal. If it is his entire abdomen that is hard, it may be also painful. And this can be caused by inflammatory diseases or other problems in the abdomen that can be serious. If Peanut is eating and drinking well, not having any vomiting or diarrhea, and seems comfortable tonight (can lay down on his abdomen without shifting positions or crying out in pain), than I would continue to watch him closely tonight and you may want to schedule an appt. with his veterinarian tomorrow if he is not any better. He may feel completely normal by tomorrow. However, if he has not eaten, seems lethargic, and/or is having vomiting or diarrhea I recommend that you get him to a doctor to have him examined and determine the cause of this problem either just by physical exam and/or X-rays. I'm sorry but I can't tell you that either. If it happened once and he seems otherwise normal you can give it a bit and see what happens. If he seems uncomfortable, has vomited multiple times, does not want to eat or has other symptoms I would consider it an emergency. Ultimately, you know Jax best so if you are worried there is no harm in having him examined now.

Severe abdominal pain in a six year old Shih Tzu warrants veterinary attention some time soon. With this type of pain, I imagine Marble is probably not wanting to move around much, eat, or drink either. I would recommend that she is taken in for x-rays and probably some blood work at minimum to see if there is any underlying condition causing this type of discomfort. It is a little hard to tell from the picture, but it sort of looks like the abdomen is a little bit distended and puffed out. Since this has been going on for a few days already, I don't think I would necessarily call this an emergency. I would however recommend getting in sometime tomorrow.

Poor Chaca! It's very concerning when I hear of a dog that has sudden bloat and a hard belly, not to mention an abnormal stomach. She could have bloat, which is a fatal condition without treatment. I would have Chaca seen by a vet immediately for this, as it is a medical emergency.

I'm sorry to hear platanito isn't feeling himself. He may be having episodes of stomach or intestinal pain that could cause him to tense his belly the way you are describing. If this is the case it can be caused by eating things that inflame the stomach or pancreas and you can offer him a very bland diet (boiled chicken breast and white rice OR chicken baby food for example) until your appointment with the vet. Another reason they can appear to tense their belly, lay down and be hesitant to move is back pain. If this is the case it's important to keep him very quiet and prevent jumping until his vet evaluates him. I hope he is feeling better very soon.
