Why is my dog vomiting, has diarrhea, and won't eat after boarding?

Poor Merida! The vomit looks more like regurgitation, or indigested food. Her nose scratch may be from digging to get out of her crate. All of her symptoms may be caused by separation anxiety, especially because she is behaving differently or if this is the first time you have left her. However, this can be coincidental with parasites, an infection, or ingestion of a toxin or foreign body. I recommend keeping a close eye on her and having her seen by a vet if she develops bloody diarrhea, continues vomiting, or starts acting lethargic. You can hold off food for the rest of the day and give small amounts of water. I hope this helps!

I think the new treats and/or the water could be causes of her upset stomach today! I would fast her: no food or water for 12 hours. If she doesn't vomit fasted then start "sip and nibble" of a bland diet of boiled chicken or hamburger with rice and water in 12 hours. Feed small frequent meals about 1 cup per day. If she continues to vomit or have extreme diarrhea during the fast or starts vomiting when you introduce food then she should be seen by your Vet! I wish you and Kona the best!

Thank you for submitting your question regarding Bentley. He may be experiencing stress colitis which is diarrhea secondary to stressful events (ie. boarding, grooming, etc). When this occurs, it can resolve on its own, but other times a secondary bacterial imbalance develops in the gut. This can require an antibiotic to treat. Since the diarrhea has recurred despite your treatment at home, I recommend that he see his veterinarian. He will likely need fecal testing and a medication. I hope this information helps!

Vomiting can be observed with conditions such as gastroenteritis, pancreatitis, dietary indiscretion, gastrointestinal foreign body ingestion and obstruction, among other possibilities. For this reason, I highly recommend that you have her evaluated by a veterinarian for further assessment and treatment as soon as possible as I am afraid she is likely becoming dehydrated. They would be able to check for these possibilities and also check her hydration status and give her medications to make her feel better. Good luck!

Poor Addie! Stress can certain cause an upset stomach in some dogs, so it's possible that this could be the problem given that she just returned from a boarding kennel. If she is acting normal otherwise, you can try withholding food for the next 12 hours to give her stomach a chance to settle, then feed a bland diet of plain boiled chicken and rice for the next 2-3 days until things are back to normal. I'm afraid that by law, we cannot recommend any kind of medication for any pet (even over-the-counter meds) without an exam - but I can tell you that I don't find any OTC meds particularly helpful for GI upset in dogs. Withholding food and a bland diet are usually the best things to do :) If she continues to vomit even though her stomach is empty, or if she develops any other symptoms such as acting lethargic or not wanting to eat, I would recommend taking her to the vet for treatment as these can be signs of a more serious problem.

It sounds like poor Ghost has a lot going on. I would be concerned that he contracted an infectious disease of some sort while away. Because of his age I would be most concerned about intestinal parasites or parvovirus. I would recommend taking your puppy back to the vet to be examined since his symptoms are getting worse. I am so sorry to hear that Pepper isn’t feeling well. Boarding can be very stressful for dogs and sometimes they can develop stress colitis which can become very serious very quickly. Is she having any diarrhea? Other possibilities include Addison’s disease, intestinal foreign object/ obstruction, or even a viral disease. I would highly encourage you to have her evaluated by a veterinarian as soon as possible. IV fluids may be recommended in addition to x-rays and possibly blood work.
