My Chihuahua is vomiting dark red blood. Is this an emergency?

Thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! I can definitely see that Koda's vomit is reddish in color and has some red flecks in it. It is possible that the vomit has blood in it, though I would not expect it to have flecks in it. It is possible that Koda ate something that was red/pink in color that made his vomit this color. However, even the possibility of blood in vomit is cause for concern as this can be caused by stomach ulcers, foreign bodies, or certain toxins. I recommend keeping a very close eye on Koda, and having her examined immediately if this happens again or your believe you are seeing something that looks like frank blood or dark coffee grounds in her vomit. She should also be seen immediately if you think there is a chance that she may have eaten something she shouldn't have or has gotten into human medications. Until she can be seen by a vet tomorrow, I recommend not giving her any food and only offering small amounts of water. There are emergency clinics in most cities that are open 24 hours. This may be due to gastrointestinal upset which may resolve on its own. I would continue monitoring her and have her evaluated if this continues, or you notice other signs of illness such as diarrhea or inappetence. Good luck!

Judging from the picture you provided, it appears as though there is blood in the material that was vomited. This could indicate an ulcer or severe gastritis (inflammation of the stomach). Your veterinarian can provide you with the most appropriate prescription medications to help alleviate the vomiting and help relieve any discomfort in the stomach. I recommend taking Poppy into an ER clinic. It sounds like she is getting dehydrated and likely needs fluids and other medication to make her feel better. She could have a stomach infection, pancreas issues or even kidney problems. Some cases need lab tests, some xrays, others both, to find out exactly what is wrong. Once the veterinarian diagnoses Poppy they can review a treatment plan to help her feel better.

It sounds as Choco is suffering from a gastrointestinal condition, possibly an infection. it could also be due to ingestion of a foreign body material. i would recommend taking him to the vet URGENTLY, he will need to be checked first, if the vet thinks it's a simple gastrointestinal infection he will need an anti vomiting injection, antibiotics and a special food for a few days in order to get better.

If Ellie's throw up and poop are both red, I would be very concerned that it is blood. It's quite serious when a dog is both vomiting and pooping blood, and that shows she is quite ill. She needs immediate vet care, I would consider all her symptoms a medical emergency. Please take her into an ER vet clinic; if there isn't one in your area, there will be a vet on call for emergencies. Oh no, poor Pixee! It's very concerning that she is passing feces that have blood in it. If she is pooping a lot, she could have diarrhea. She really needs to see a vet as soon as possible because blood in the feces can have some very serious causes including eating something toxic, a foreign body, trauma to the GI tract, or GI tumors. I would take Pixee into a vet immediately to diagnose the cause of her bloody feces and the vet can discuss treatment options.
