Why is my dog throwing up brown, ground beef-like vomit now?

If he hasn't thrown up again recently, I can give you a home remedy for him to see if that helps. Feed him a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken (no bones) and white rice in small amounts several times a day for a couple of days. Then slowly add back in his normal diet. If he refuses to eat the bland diet, he vomits the bland diet, develops diarrhea, stops drinking water, starts vomiting water, or becomes very lethargic, he will need to see a vet right away. For any GI upset, a bland diet (such as white rice and plain boiled white meat chicken) that is easily digestible is a good option. If chicken isn't an option for her, very lean ground beef browned in a skillet with no oil is another good option. If she continues vomiting, doesn't want to eat or otherwise starts acting ill, then I would recommend having her evaluated by her regular veterinarian. Good luck!

You should keep a close eye on him to ensure he doesn’t vomit again. If Bear continues to vomit, develops diarrhea or is not acting quite like himself, he should be seen by his vet as he may require medication and supportive care. In the meantime, I would hold off on giving Bear any food for about 12 hours and then reintroduce his normal diet slowly (about 1/2 his normal serving) I hope this helps and am happy to answer any other questions you may have!

I recommend that you have your pup evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. Likely diagnostics to be performed include abdominal imaging and general bloodwork. I recommend withholding food for 12-24 hours. Resume feeding a bland diet (boiled boneless/skinless chicken breast mixed with plain cooked white rice) in small, frequent amounts. Begin with 1 tablespoon of food every hour and gradually increase the amount as long as she doesn't vomit. Feed the bland diet until the stool is consistently normal (usually several days), then transition slowly to the new diet over another 5-7 days. Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Poor Biscuit! I would actually recommend with holding fluids for 6 hours and food for 12-24 hours. If there is no vomiting in 6 hours offer small amounts of water frequently. If that goes well (no vomiting) then start feeding at 12-24 hours with a bland diet. use boiled chicken or hamburger with rice. Feed 1 cup per 20 lbs per day for 3-5 days. Causes of vomiting are: intestinal parasites, viral or bacterial infections, dietary indiscretion, foreign body blockage, pancreatitis, toxin ingestion or metabolic changes. If she continues to vomit she should be seen by your Vet before the weekend. I wish you and Biscuit the best!
