My dog keeps vomiting even after treatment. What should I do now?

Hi there. I'm sorry Ziggy isn't feeling well! I am concerned that Ziggy has vomited despite the injection, and this warrants another call to the vet. Depending on what they gave (there are a few different types of anti-vomiting medications), they may be able to give a different medication (you might specifically ask if they carry Cerenia; this may be what they already gave, but it may be a stronger anti-nausea option if they gave something different initially). Beyond that, though, it sounds like more diagnostic information is needed to get to the root of *why* Ziggy is vomiting so he can be treated appropriately. Another thing your vet could do today is provide supplemental fluids for Ziggy, either subcutaneously (under the skin) or as an IV injection (which would require at least several hours of hospitalization) to help with dehydration. However, I definitely agree with your vet that it seems more information is necessary - I agree that an ultrasound will provide helpful information, and if they haven't already run bloodwork, I would request that as well. Other possibilities include food sensitivity/allergy, gut parasites, or infection. I would recommend taking Miley back to the vet within the next 12 hours if she is continuing to vomit during this time. They may recommend performing an x-ray to rule out the possibility of an obstruction. At minimum, they can prescribe medication to help settle her tummy and prevent nausea. In the meantime, if you recently offered any new diet or treats, discontinue them and try going back to her old diet. Your vet may also recommend a diet formulated for sensitive stomachs. Small, frequent meals would be best, to allow her to digest the food easier. I hope this helps, and that Miley is feeling better soon.

It sounds as Cher is suffering from a gastrointestinal condition, possibly an infection. it could also be due to ingestion of a foreign body material. i would recommend taking her to the vet the first chance you get, she will need to be checked first, if the vet thinks it's a simple gastrointestinal infection she will need an anti vomiting injection, antibiotics and a special food for a few days in order to get better. if the vet thinks it is more serious she will need a blood test and possibly an ultrasound in order to find out what is wrong.

This could indicate a number of things. It possible that Chloe developed a food sensitivity, reflux, gastrointestinal stasis, internal organ issues, or esophageal inflammation. If the vomiting continues it would be best to have Chloe examined by a veterinarian. She may need X-rays or even blood work to determine the cause of the vomiting. A bland diet of boiled chicken and sweet potato can be offered for a day or two to see if this helps settle Chloe's stomach, but if the vomiting continues she will need to see a veterinarian for medication options. Depends on what is causing her vomiting. Do you know why she is vomiting? Did she get into something? Any chance she ingested any type of toxin? Did she swallow part of a toy? Did you change her food? One episode of vomiting is not that concerning but since she has Intractable vomiting, it is an emergency and she should be seen by a veterinarian. Treatments are different depending on the underlying cause of the problem.
